It will have a serial number and if you know where it was bought from you could ask for a warranty repair without a receipt - you may get lucky.
Otherwise put it on the street with a "kaputt?" sign on it, and anyone fancying a bit of DIY repair will take it. If it's still there after a day, take it to any electrical shop and hand it in; they'll take it in for recycling. Or if you're like me and don't like talking to random people, dump it outside said electrical shop in the evening once it's shut.
If you look on your local gemeinde website and they will tell you where you can take it for free. The recycle costs are paid in advance when you by new electrical goods.

Take it back to MediaMarkt and depending on the local shop set up ether you can hand it in at the customer service desk or they may have a container or rack you can leave it in. Always better to give in electronic stuff this way.
if it's even rusty just trash it, these things don't last very long.
Even in the mountains in Wengen we have skip for disposal of electrical goods at the recycling centre.
