Coleman's Mustard Powder - recipe

I just bought today Coleman's mustard powder.

Here are a few tasty recipe to go with it.

Treat it with caution if it your first time using it.

It is much hotter than most other mustards, but far better in my opinion.

One of my favourite uses is to add it to cheese sauce, particularly for cauliflower cheese.

It is a product that has made its money from being thrown away. I read somewhere once that around 50% of it is discarded; left on the side of the plate after dinner.

I will try your cauliflower cheese idea - sounds very nice.

I love it. What a great product. Definitely very pungent and must be treated with caution. My father's favorite. It's almost got that Wasabi effect of pungency.

I add a pinch of it to almost all dishes that contain a creamy sauce.

I also make a little paste with water and brush it on any pork filled pastries such as sausage rolls, pork pies, etc...

I use it in mash and yorkshire puds.

The powder is always much better than the already prepared variety. Excellent with a cold beef sandwich and I always add a teaspoon to a lamb curry.

As already stated, great with all cheese sauces and mashed potato. If you can get a pork roasting joint rub it onto the skin for some extra flavoured crackling!

I love EF - I actually found a thread about Coleman's Mustard Powder... whodathunkit.

Does anyone know where I can actually buy it?

Cheers!

I stockpiled some because I have heard that they are discontinuing the powder. I love it aqnd its so much easier to keep in the cupboard and not in the fridge.

Thanks möpp - unfortunately I would need it for tonight... do you know if any of the Swiss shops [or better still, anywhere in Basel] stock it?

If you get stuck, you can buy it online direct from Colemans . They will ship overseas from UK. The site also has some recipes.

Nope, sorry - I just checked Coop's website and they don't seem to stock it. Migros certainly doesn't, I know that.

How about just using some Dijon mustard "extra forte"?

Thanks for checking! Good idea subbing it for Dijon, should give the sauce a decent kick...

You could buy mustard seed and crush it with a mortar and pestle

Here could be a good bet and in Basel.

They stock other English goods, so I expect mustard would be in there.

I just looked at their product list and they most certainly do have Colmans mustard, both powder and prepared.

You're an absolute star (obviously )! Thank you so much, its only 10 mins from the house too!

You're most welcome, how very lucky you are it's so close by and they really seem to have a nice and varied range of goods.

I may have to make a trip there myself one of these days.

I did read that they had closed down last year (and their product price list is dated May 2009). Let us know if I'm wrong though.

But how very vexing, I looked again and suspect you are right, there is a notice on the Moneyhouse site, that would indicate they have gone into liquidation.

You would think they might take the site off the web after all though.

How very frustrating for you morrigana, at least you won't have travelled too far out of your way to find the place under a new name or something.

What a shame.
