Comparison John Grisham

Dont judge a book by its cover is an old saying but I find it hard to get used to a new author. I love John Grisham books but after reading them all I need something new to keep me busy till the next one comes out.

Is there authors out there with similar writting styles that I could try?

Hoping that my local library would have a few to test out as buying a new e-book that I might not like seems a waste.

If anybody has a few suggestions I would be very thankful!!

Utter crap....but enjoyable beach reading....David Baldacci

HAHAHA...do you mean I have to read it then on the loo???

You should try Scott Turow, also a lawyer.

You might like Daniel Silva and Baldacci.

I've just read his newest one, - can't remember the title, it's back in the library now - but it was a bore, a stupid plot, nowadays it's a bit like flogging a dead horse.

Why do you need to readf trhem all, just buy one and re-read it....

There's a fine new historical novel just out called The Plan by M. Bockman. Combines the tension of a Grisham thriller with an overview of the power struggle between the bankers, politicians, and labor leaders 100 years ago in america. Quite absorbing. A real page turner with deep insights.

Nelson DeMille, Michael Connelly, Dan Brown, T. Jefferson Parker, Sue Grafton, Lawrence Block... just to name a few.

But there are so many more if you are willing to branch out a bit.

I read all books by John Grisham and Robert Ludlum. Currently I am reading "Innocent" by Scott Turow and must admit it's a good book.

For trashy crime novels, I enjoy Michael Connoly, Jonathan Kellerman and Robert Crais.

I like all those too. And Lee Child, Robert Parker and Harlan Coben.

But why do you call them trashy?

My cheesy crime novel go-to authors are Patricia Cornwell, Kathy Reichs, Tess Gerrison, Andy McNab, James Patterson (not the ones he co-authors with, those are a bit weak), Cody McFadyen, Karen Slaughter, and Faye Kellerman.

I have TONS of novels I would love to get rid of. If anyone is interested let me know and I'm sure I can arrange to meet or drop them off somewhere.

Nobody mentioned www.michaelpalmerbooks.com/ who writes medical drama's, an excellent writer.

I never heard of him before.

Nice, I'll give him a try.

i got totally into patricia cornwell after finding a book on the beach and i liked her stuff. but my fav, for crime, is definitely agatha christie , my guilty secret. plus i have bad memory for books that i can reread them as much as i want

I have to admit to being partial to Mrs Christie myself.

I love rereading Conan Doyle too, every time I find something I missed before.

Ooh Ooh -- don't know how I forgot to include my favorite:

Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child (they co-author) with their Agent Pendergast series. Simply brilliant.

Although maybe I should mention some of them can be what some might consider scary, but I would personally consider suspensful.

I don't usually do trashy literature but I couldn't put down Stieg Larsson.

I also enjoy Grisham novels. Last Friday, I bought a bokk of his short stories, read it on the way to Greece and on the way back, finishing it in time to ass on to a fellow random fellow-passenger who had seen what I was reading and commented that she enjoyed his books but had not read that one.

I also enjoy the crime novels by Donna Leon, all set in Venice - no courtroom drama, but interesting police work and life of a slightly tired Venetian police officer, intertwined a bit with his domestic life and his philospohical musings on life.

Susan Hill and Camila Lackberg
