Completely confused.. please shed some light!

Hi everyone,

Ok I am completely traumatised and overwhelmed here (exaggeration but still...)

So I was driving to work as usual from Rolle to Geneva. I was between Gland and Nyon (where there is a radar). The traffic was relatviely fluid, but still not normal speed. I was at AND I AM SURE AS I CHECKED!!! 105km/h and i passed the radar and it flashed me!!!!!

I am completely confused:

1. I was at 105km--- unless they recently changed the speed limit in Switzerland, this is fine for an autoroute.

2. I was told these radars do not flash

3. I checked everything else ie lights, plates, seat belt ANYTHING I could think of, everything was in order!

Can anyone help?? I don't understand!! Why would I get flashed?? I was at 105km!! I am ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE!!!!!!!!!

Help please!!!

Thanks

It wasn't a set of roadworks you were travelling through, was it? Sometimes they knock the limit down to 100 or even 80.

Maybe it was the guy behind you taking your photo.

I thought of that - but to my knowledge I did not pass any signs telling me the speed had changed. There were some later near Coppet etc.

No i definitely came from the radar!! It flashed three times!!!!!!

Does anyone drive this route?

great now I am completely panicking that I missed something and it was knocked down to 80km and if I was at 105km wouldn't i lose my lisence?? oh no i cant!!! this is a disaster!!! now that I think of it there was some road work but I dont remember where it was.. oh noooo this cannot be happening!!!

how long would the ticket take to arrive??

Keep your hair on!

These things sometimes cover both directions and can also flash when you are within the limits. But no fines are issued for keeping to the speed limits.

There's a new laser speed camera on Zurich's Seestrasse just near the 'Badi' at Wollishofen in the 60kph limit. This thing flashes itself stupid at times - no idea what for...

Deep breaths!

Ask yourself - were you going 25km faster than everyone else on the road? If not then you can probably assume that there was no reduced speed limit.

Were there cars around you - in front, behind and in the other lane? If so then it could be one of these cars that were being flashed, especially if they were going faster than you. Was the camera in the central reservation? If so, then it is possible that it was flashing a car driving the other way.

If you weren't doing anything wrong then you'll probably never hear anything of it.

Were you travelling at the same speed as the traffic around you? If you were then it's unlikely you were flashed and none of the others were. You say the traffic was fairly fluid which gives me the impression that it was busy but moving.

Maybe someone behind you (but in your blind spot) was overtaking and that was the car being flashed.

I wouldn't sweat it until you find out for sure. Don't know how long a ticket takes to arrive - I drive boringly slowly so have not been in speeding fine territory yet.

I've been flashed heaps of times when I was below or only marginally above the speed limit and never recieved a fine.

I dont think I was going any faster than anyone else, there were indeed cars in front, behind and in the opposite lane, but the camera was CLEARLY pointed in my direction and flashed right in front of my eyes. I really was not going any faster than others, in fact the car behind me was keeping up and I couldnt not go any faster because of the cars in front... but I have taken this road god knows how many times and have at times been at 130 -135 km and never even seen these radars flash and suddently I was flashed - I do remember road work being done on the shoulder, but I do not remember where.... but I am sure that there was nothing from the gland exist to the radar itself, so imagine I had been getting on at gland, how would I have known that there was a speed reduction if this were the case?

Are the radars sometimes tested or something? I just don't understand... I really hope I am not going to lose my liscense!!

ok thanks everyone im feeling better - I just cannot afford to get a ticket - especially if I really was not (in my knowledge) doing anything wrong!

hmmm, aren't these statements contradictory? As the saying goes, if you cannot afford to do the time, don't do the crime. Besides, if you got flashed for doing 105 where it's in fact 100 then fine won't be too much due to the few km/h they deduct as a buffer. I believe I once got a fine of 80 CHF or less for doing 3 km/h over the limit.

ok fair enough, yes when I am doing 130Km i deserve a ticket, but here i was at 105 so that is why i am so confused! I really do not understand... I am trying to scan my brain to remember if I had seen a sign saying we were down to 80km but I really do not remember seeing one at all! If it were down to 80km, then surely I would not be the only one to get a ticket because I am sure I was not going 25km faster than everyone else. I just am so worried I will lose my license...

Nah. 25km/h above the limit on the autoroute/Autobahn just means a CHF 260 (IIRC) fine. Besides, the car is usually going a few km/h slower than the speedometer reading.

This one?? http://kronenhalle.wordpress.com/200...peed-trap-mod/

I found one database which shows 2 speed cameras between Nyon and Gland, but both seem to be set at 120km/h: http://www.scdb.info/en/software-karte/5203 .

The most likely explanation is therefore temporary roadworks which caused the limit to be set temporarily to 100 or 80.

I got a 120 Chuffer in the post for a flash on Hohlstrasse in ZH - I went back and looked - there is no camera where they said it was. Must have been a portable fecker - these are being used more and more.

What a waste of such fine cameras.

That's it. Though there have been roadworks in front of it for the last few weeks which must have cut down their take...

So in this case, she saw three flashes, that is three separate tickets to pay for the road work. Imagine the money they make during that time of work being done.

You don't loose your license from the first infraction, unless, you were 30kms or more over the limit. If it was reduced to 80, and you were driving 105, they remove 5km/h for margin, you might MIGHT see a CHF 150 - 200 fine. Construction zones, fines are higher, and tunnels. If it was a 100 zone maybe someone was doing 107. You'll know within 3-8 weeks.

So i drove the exact same route today and really looked at what was happening on the autoroute. I saw some roadworks on the right shoulder but there was NOTHING saying that the speed was reduced to 80 or 100... I really don't understand. THe worst is the more you play the whole scenario in your head you begin to doubt tons of things ie, was I really at 105km? did I miss some sign? etc etc.... argggh going crazy!!!!!!!!!
