concerns about a Geneva international school

I have concerns about the behaviour of a Geneva international school. It really covers two areas one of which is the conduct of a staff member who is using lessons to promote a particular political and social agenda. The other is the way in which the school dealt with a serious complaint by a student about a member of staff

I have emailed the school 3 times with evidence yet they choose not to resond. I am looking for advice as to the best way to publicise the situation. In an effort to get the school to take action.

You could contact the Geneva department of education and copy the head of school, see their complaints process here

Does this apply to private international schools

They might take notice now though some bad publicity is coming their way!

Erm, did you read the text? You can also paste it into google translate which will give you this:

The department intervenes with private schools only under the narrow angle of public order and respect for good faith in business. When general teaching conditions are contrary to public order, morality or hygiene, complainants and complainants, or witnesses, are invited to express themselves in writing, or at a interview after which they sign a declaration. They produce the evidence in their possession. The administration does not undertake any action on the basis of anonymous denunciations.

The private education service determines whether the facts fall within its field of competence and if they are proven. If necessary, it enjoins the schools to regularize their situation. Offenders may incur criminal penalties and be denied permission to operate. No information can be disclosed to the public, or even to complainants, about past or current investigations, or about the outcome of the proceedings.

The department is not empowered to intervene in private law disputes. Even when an investigation is initiated, the complainants must settle their dispute through the usual channels. If the parties can not reach an amicable agreement, the plaintiffs and plaintiffs must initiate legal proceedings before the competent authorities. For more information, contact a legal advisor.

I'd be super careful about publicly making allegations of the nature the OP is describing.

OP should follow it up by all means but as soon as it goes public he is on the back-foot.

Thanks for the direction. I think that it may be better just to publish the information I have. A sort of buyer beware.

If anyone can suggest suitable forums etc it will be a great help.

Don ́t put it on a forum! See Sandgrounder ́s post?!

I have emails from a current teacher of the school making unexceptable statements. I have sent this to the school and clearly the school have no issue with the conduct. These are statements made by the teacher with the backing of the school. What would be the problem to share them with the wider community.

I hope you have a good lawyer then

This is Switzerland, use registered mail if you want a response.

Tom

Did you even request a response or did you just send your complain?

And as Tom says e-mail shme-mail. No proof of delivery, never read by recipient but simply deleted.

Write a letter to headmaster, board of directors, etc. Additionally state what you want to be done like meeting, written response, or other action.

I have had a reply from the director of the school who said she was not authorised to deal with it and past it on to the board. Since then nothing. I am not sure why posting a copy of an email whos content I have authority to would cause me trouble. It is quite simply the truth. Surely parents have a right to know who is teaching thier child.

Do you have a kid in that school? If so, what are you doing writing emails? Make an appointment, show up there in person!

No I dont. I am close to previous members of staff.

Are you prepared to take your child out of said school?

If not I would tread carefully and think of the consequences.

What do you want out of this exactly? Did you make proposals to the school?

If the Director is not responding, then the higher level is the board of Directors. I would follow-up with a written letter to the Director first, indicating you are prepared to go to the board directly if you do not receive an answer. But then again think through what you are aiming to accomplish through all this.

If you are really not happy with the school, best is to vote with your feet and take your child out.

So, only hearsay.

Tom

No not hear say I have emails from the teacher in question. Clearing making strong statements about ethnicity, religion, politics etc. The emails are complete withdates around 4 weeks old and name etc.

That is hearsay, as you have no first-hand experience of the situation.

It's up to the person concerned to make a complaint, NOT you!

Tom

You took it right out of my mouth.

Third party is spreading to fourth party (= us).

An off I am .....
