I am from Pakistan. I am a holder of Ci Permit as my wife works at an International Organization in Geneva. I came here with my family in October 2021. I got a job in an IT company and my contract is for an indefinite period of time. My wife's contract is till October 2022. I would like to ask if, I can convert my Ci permit to B permit before my wife's contract ends at her Organization? If it is possible, kindly tell me how it can be done and how much time it takes?
"Family members who obtain a Ci permit may continue to use it for as long as the principal individual beneficiary exercises their official duties. They may hold a Ci permit for as long as they are in gainful employment or, if they lose their job, for as long as they are receiving unemployment benefits. The Ci permit becomes invalid once the main beneficiary loses the right to a legitimation card ."
I am not sure whether it's possible to switch to an independent permit from a Ci. A Ci is not a "normal" type of permit to begin with.
In order to obtain your own B permit, your employer would need to go through the non-EU hiring process, and prove that no Swiss or EU person could be found to do the job. If you work for a large firm with deep pockets, it might work out.
The reason you got your job easily now is that you're on a dependent permit. So the employer didn't need to do anything special in order to hire you.
Your wife should probably ask her organization first whether it's even possible to split off a Ci. If it is, then you'd ask your employer if they're willing to go through the non-EU hiring process for you.
