I think the WD TV live is a much better proposition
USB input to play mpg, avi, mkv etc.. Ethernet port for super fast streaming (or wifi) Media server so you can pull pictures, videos, songs etc.. off a NAS or other computer Dedicated remote or smartphone/tablet for control BBC iPlayer, Netflix, Youtube, Spotify + much more
CHF 90 , which is probably the same cost as the Chromecast once you add shipping and tax to CH.
I have a ChromeCast on order, should come from the US in late September. I have a perfect use case for it and that is pumping my Chrome window to the Cast.
3 months of Netflix for free might be a giggle too
For my phone I use iMediaShare (via Wifi). Works like a charm with Samsung TV and phone. There is a similar software for my mac but I don't recall it's name atm.
Both softwares are free and you can stream vids and music, show pics etc
What would be the advantage of buying extra hardware? maybe only if your TV doesn't have the wifi option.
Oh ok, not sure if that software does that...but i think there should be a software out there that can mirror your desktop on the tv...will do some research...
an option would also be (not sure if your tv supports it) to stream the Al Jazeera Sport stuff directly in the TVs internet browser. It has worked for me for some online streaming movie sites. but might not work if you need some extra goodies installed...
