Cool New Gadget - Google Chromecast

This is what I've been looking for. A gadget to cheaply and easily connect my TV to my laptop w/o cables.

http://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome...ecast/#netflix

Looks really simple, just plug it in the HDMI port on your TV and start watching movies from your laptop. Only $35USD too.

They must be popular since the lead times are around 3 weeks for delivery.

I'll wait for your next thread entitled "Why is Google Chromecast a pile of shit which doesn't actually connect to my laptop at all?!?".

Did you get one already?

A friend was in the US last week but it was sold out everywhere in Houston.

Very nice. So you don't need a Smart TV but one with just an HDMI port in the back?

Where are you getting it? Amazon (at $35) does not ship to Switzerland. A couple of others do but they are much more expensive.

Just ordered from Google. Shipping it to the US and bringing it to CH.

this is an outstanding new device and i can't wait for google to make it available in switzerland! a review would be great!

I was, uh, wrong: Chromecast does what Google claims

I think the WD TV live is a much better proposition

USB input to play mpg, avi, mkv etc.. Ethernet port for super fast streaming (or wifi) Media server so you can pull pictures, videos, songs etc.. off a NAS or other computer Dedicated remote or smartphone/tablet for control BBC iPlayer, Netflix, Youtube, Spotify + much more

CHF 90 , which is probably the same cost as the Chromecast once you add shipping and tax to CH.

I have a ChromeCast on order, should come from the US in late September. I have a perfect use case for it and that is pumping my Chrome window to the Cast.

3 months of Netflix for free might be a giggle too

Cute stuff

For my phone I use iMediaShare (via Wifi). Works like a charm with Samsung TV and phone. There is a similar software for my mac but I don't recall it's name atm.

Both softwares are free and you can stream vids and music, show pics etc

What would be the advantage of buying extra hardware? maybe only if your TV doesn't have the wifi option.

I really don't get why many people seem to singularly fail to understand what the Chromecast does.

From the OP:

"A gadget to cheaply and easily connect my TV to my laptop w/o cables"

IT DOES NOT DO THAT.

I have an Al Jazeera Sport subscription which plays in Chrome on my PC. It's a HD feed.

I believe that tab in Chrome pushed to my ChromeCast (when it comes) will be wonderful.

It's more than just your pictures and movies, that's the easy bit.

And how do you propose to do that?

Oh ok, not sure if that software does that...but i think there should be a software out there that can mirror your desktop on the tv...will do some research...

an option would also be (not sure if your tv supports it) to stream the Al Jazeera Sport stuff directly in the TVs internet browser. It has worked for me for some online streaming movie sites. but might not work if you need some extra goodies installed...

it's flash-based, my TV does not support this. But the dirty solution to connect HDMI cables doesn't appeal.

Cast is simple and flexible. I proper want one!

Well then i would be really interested in a little review once you get it

You'll see his review in the 'For Sale' section

For 320 CHF, almost new!

bollocks you will.

if the dog hadn't eaten my Tizzbird remote, you might see that in the section though!!
