Cooling bandana for dogs

Dog is really not enjoying the heat (fairly long haired black GSD). He has his own fan in the house and we got out early in the morning but I want to get him a cooling bandana. A friend's dog has one and she says it makes a huge difference. I have found a couple advertised online in Qualipet but he would need an XL size to fit around his neck and they don't run that big. Anyone got any ideas where I could get one. Thanks

My ol' lady makes them for 15Chf. What circumference would you need?

I'd take one for our Frenchie..

I assume they work since you have one too? And a Frenchie..

I bought 2 small bandanas last summer along with the cooling mat. I just wet the bandanas, chucked them in the freezer for a bit then on the dogs. They tolerated them fine, the cooling mat was used by both.

Instead of the chemical bandana, I just used a regular scarf around the neck of my dog - when it dried out, I'd just wet it with water again, and presto.

I did however buy the cooling mat for her - the chemicals inside would cool in temperature from pressure of her laying on it - and especially when driving in the car, it was clearly a success. Qualipet have a great range of products for this and I think Fressnapf did as well?

Also she had hard plastic paddling pool which she enjoyed standing in.

I kept a spray bottle nearby filled with cold water which I spritzed her with at other times.

And finally, I found a great groomer that would give her the "summer buzz cut" as the weather warmed up - this made the biggest difference of all for our English Springer Spaniel - she'd get the light version of that about now, the serious version in late July, and her fur always grew back in plenty of time for mid Autumn.

Thank you. My son in UK found one for him over there in XL size and is posting it. However, always good to have a back up plan. Can you please give more information on it (is it gel or crystals or have to freeze a pouch).

Many thanks

Your other advice is great but it’s really not recommended to shave/clip a dog with a proper double coat of fur as it provides them with insulation and protection from sun and from brush etc.

I know Meiko sells very expensive cooling jackets for dogs that I’ve heard a lot of good things about. Personally I keep my dog as wet as possible in summer and don’t expect a lot of physical activity from her in the hot and sunny hours. Fans are good too. Keeping them slim helps—an overweight dog will get hotter faster. Keeping the paws wet and cool is a big step.

Best of luck OP!
