Copper Pot Retinning

Hello

Does anyone know of a tinker in the Lausanne area? Someone who repairs and re-tins copper pots and pans.

Thanks

A remarkable first post especially considering your location of Santa Barbara.

Anyway, the Swiss tendency is to throw old stuff away so services like that, where they exist, may be very expensive.

Some firms do it e.g. : https://www.silbag.ch/ (German Language)

It's expensive anywhere.

Well, you can also do it yourself: https://www.instructables.com/id/DIY...PotsPans-Inst/

Nowheres near Lausanne, but since coppersmiths are few and far between these days:

If you can't find someone close to you and you are up for a trip into the wilds o' Glarus, these folks might be able to help you:

It's been over 10 years since I was last there so bear in mind that my experience is not up to date - but the website says they still do repair work. Probably best to call and discuss the project first.

(Drop off your pot, then head off for an day trip or weekend exploring the wonders of Glarnerland...)

Gotta start somewhere right?

I've been coming to Switzerland for over 20 years now, (wife is a Swiss miss) visiting family. And we are planning to settle there in the next year or so. I am a chef and have a collection of old copper pans, most that I use. And the collection seems to grow whenever I stumble upon a brocante or a vide-grenier. I have re-tinned a few myself, but the electric hob we have in Lausanne makes that an iffy proposition.

Thanks for the replies! Always up for a trek to the back-country. What my wife refers to as the "primitive" cantons!

Here is one not toooooo far in France - you could take a trip up and enjoy the region.

Excellent price, and very impressive work.

Curious because I recently had come across recommendations for switching to copper pans for induction hobs (De Buyer Prima Matera, for example - pretty pricey, even by Suisse standards). So as a chef, you obviously would recommend this but as evidenced by the thread the cleaning/retinning of them is a hurdle of significance

Have you read the link Barca - 132E for a set of 5 saucepans, and about 55E for large frying pan- and the quality of the work is very impressive. I'd say this is NOT expensive. With a chance to visit Dijon and the vineyards of Burgundy too.

Thank you for this, we had found his site and were thinking about contacting. With your recommendation we will certainly do so. The plus being he is only 150km away so I feel a day trip is needed.

Sorry, this is not a recommendation as such- I did a search using the correct French words, and came up with their link and had a look. Prices seems VERY reasonable, and the work excellent. But I have NOT used them myself.

All of our copper pans are un-tinned.

Just looking at the french links then researching further, I have now understood the derivation of the English word "verdigris" which is the green/blue deposit of copper carbonate found on copper ware. It is from the French "vert de Grece" or green of Greece.
