corn syrup and cranberries

Hi everyone,

I've been looking around for both corn syrup (preferably dark but at this point i'd settle for light). I've been in mirgos, coop, and two different reform houses without luck.

I'm also looking for cranberries, also without any success.

Any tips??

I've seen fresh cranberries in Migros in Zurich in the cooler along with other pre-packaged delicate fruit and veg such as mangetout and beansprouts. You will probably find them there.

Don't know about corn syrup but recall there a couple of threads (to be found via the search function) with some discussion on the subject.

I've seen fresh cranberries at Coop (though that was just before Thanksgiving) and in the Globus. As for corn syrup, they sell Karo (light) at www.afoodave.ch in the "baking and cooking products" section.

The American Market in Geneva and Nyon carries Karo Dark Corn Syrup. You can order from them (there is a minimum order amount) or have someone you know pick it up when they are in Geneva. The store is two minutes from the train station.

Use the search function - Corn Syrup

They also have canned cranberries if that is what you are looking for.

I have seen fresh cranberries at Migros, Coop and Jelmoli.

I'm not sure if they stock them in all branches, but I buy my cranberries from the Coop on Bahnhofstrasse in the fruit & veg section, and also from Jelmoli in the gourmet food department downstairs.

Euro Spar at BerninaPlatz Oerlikon has bags of fresh cranberries. You can find them in the fruit section.

Thanks for all the tips. I found cranberries, and will have to order corn syrup from one of the sites. I also found out that glucose syrup can be substituted for corn syrup and supposedly it exists in Switzerland but I haven't been able to track any down.

Try this thread .

Make glucose syrup yourself - it's much cheaper that way.

Thanks crumbs,

I also found this link with other substitutes. http://www.bluesuitmom.com/food/substitutions.html

Somebody told me that you can get corn syrup at the turkish store in Schwamendingerplatz... or as others have suggested, order from online, or trick some friend who is flying home for Christmas to throw a bottle in their suitcase

I also have about 4 kg. of glucose, and I would be happy to turn a bit over to someone in need...

Hello everyone!

Sorry to bring out the thread from hibernation, but I've been trying to find corn syrup here in Switzerland, and after browsing through some threads, and since getting to it is a hassle, and don't have time to order it now from the american market, I just simply googled how to substitute corn syrup and came upon a great alternative. Here's the link hope it helps some of you. I shall give it a try and see how it turns out!
