Cost of Coffee in Zurich

What does a long coffee cost in Zurich...?

What's a long coffee?

Coffee ranges from about 3.80 for an espresso to 4.50 for a cafe latte, to 5.90 for a double espresso - at least in the kinds of cafe I frequent. YMMV.

Starbucks charge quite a lot more for their weird concoctions, but people only go there to change their babies' nappies anyway, so you don't need to worry about that.

Chf 5.50

.

Great point - What is a "long" coffee. Technically it is an espresso that is stretched with more water.... its become term of our house to differentiate between espresso and drip.

I was really looking for what a plain, "venti" sized Starbucks drip coffee....

Don't have 'em here except at Starbucks.

A normal cup of coffee is about a third that size, stronger, and costs (as others have said) around CHF3-6 depending where you buy it.

A good cup of coffee costs Sfr 3 in the Kantonspital café.

And a decent (not quite "good") one is CHF1.50 in the uni mensa.

Buy three of those, pour 'em into a stonking big paper cup (6 dL), add water to fill it and you've got a venti!

I'd say this coffee situation presents the perfect opportunity to put 'when in Rome one does as the Romans do' into practice.

Stick to espresso and you can't go wrong.

Venti, tutti-frutti, mulligatawny, indeed!

Your house seems to be Italian. It is a "Lungo" in Europe. Lungo

I would estimate it around 5 CHFs, but only expect to get it at genuinely Italian places.

... except that a proper "Lungo" is still less than 100ml, while a "venti" drip coffee is 600ml!

Why would somebody pour an expresso into an entire bottle of water?!

I guess I better stick to my quadruple expressos.

I'm with you on all the silly names for various coffees. It annoys me when I ask for a cup of coffee and they tell me that I want an Americano or whatever. NO: I want a cup of coffee!

You probably didn't expect this: McDo sells very good coffee (Kaffee crème/the Swiss classical one or espresso) for Sfr. 2.50 !

Oops, I'm talking about Basel. But isn't McDo the same in every Swiss city?

In Zurich we have those and with that price too.

Good to know that there is at least no competition between Basel and Zurich if it comes to McDO coffee prices Thanks, Maria!
