Looks like I'm going to need a fair bit of work on my teeth done, so I've been looking at where to go for it. Naturally Switzerland is out of the question given the prices for dentistry, which means I'd have to go abroad, probably looking at anything between two to six visits, likely spread out over a month or two, but time off work is an issue.
I fly back to Ireland a few times a year already, so that's an option as I'm already taking that time off. Konstanz or somewhere in Germany, just over the border is another and there's plenty of recommendations here on dentists - so this might be the most flexible of solutions as it'll be easier to get a (Zahn-)arztzeugnis for work. However, none of them seem to publish price lists, and naturally this is another consideration. Hungary, would eat up too much time, unfortunately (and the prices at this stage are much the same as in Ireland).
So, my question is where might I find a few example price lists to get a feel for what it will cost? Thanks in advance.
I found a lots of German dentist's websites have a price list. Still worked out cheaper for me to fly back to the UK and go private just to have a loose crown refitted.
I don't know what needs to be done (I'm not a dentist, after all) but I'd imagine it may end up being extensive and likely go into four figures. Ultimately a price list would cover that and I really just need a ballpark figure anyway at present.
For example this is a price list from Dublin. Prices vary, but will likely be in this ballpark. If prices in Germany are roughly the same, then I'm better off going there for convenience sake, otherwise Ireland will be a better option if there is a significant saving.
I actually looked at a few in Konstanz and none did, which is why I posted - I just got the impression it's 'not done' there to publish them.
You are not going to find out the price until a dentist has looked in your mouth. The Swiss consumerist magazine KTipp, says it will be 30% cheaper than Swiss prices. Don't forget you will be treated as a private patient, as you won't be in any insurance scheme.
Like Switzerland, Germany operates a point system for the work done. Then the points are multiplied by the dentist's tariff, the rate per point, and you have the price for the treatment.
As I said, a few times, I'm not looking for an estimate, just something to get a ballpark or benchmark from and compare to Irish prices. Well, I'd thought that German dentists don't publish these, but after Blueangel's post I took another look and found one or two price lists to compare with Ireland.
I don't know if you managed to solve your dental problem, but I have some experience with the hungarian solution. I thing it is not that far. 1,5 h is the flight between Basel and Budapest. I know some people not just from Switzerland but also from GB who take the time to go there and take advantage of the high quality expertise with reduced expenses. As I remember the total cost of replacing 1 missing tooth was around 1200 CHF at "zahnimplatatbudapest" or something like this.
One of my collegue contacted them from Basel, they are availabel here and they speak English and German also. He was in Budapest due to have 3 implantats, and the final price was significantly cheaper than in GER or CH. They have pricelist on the website. I hope I could help to you. Bye
Don ́t want y ́all to think I am polishing the Maltese bell, but a lot of people come here to have dental work done, all dentists are trained in the UK except the three German dentists living here, Equipment is EU standard and a filling, for instance, costs around 30 Euros.
