Cost of having a BMW vs Volvo

Hi!

I am considering buying a Volvo s60 or a BMW 318d.

I was wondering if anyone know the costs of owning either of these cars - i.e Regular Service Costs? insurance? etc.

thanks.

service / repairs:

don't know. search a specialized forum for hints on any stuff that breaks often.

New Volvos have 10 years/100'000km free servicing. The finance rate was pretty low last time I looked.

I've an XC70. Insurance (fully comp) is less than 2000 per year.

Don't know about bmws though.

nice volvo, vs lowest class BMW

my choice would be quickly made......volvo would be cheaper in maintenance also. not by much but it would be

Being in the automotive business back in the States,we don't find too many techs that are fond of either one. You did not state if these were new cars or used. If buying new, neither one will hurt you for three years? I think service is included for 3 years. Both companies have issues. If new is what you are getting, go BMW. They are alot more fun to drive. If you are looking used, go Toyota. You will not spend in the lifetime of a Toyota what you will spend in 3 years on a used Volvo or BMW.

yeah but it is a yota

and seeing that you are referring to the USA I think you mean the camry? which is not at all common here, unlike the usa where it seems to be every 16year olds car

You still haven't said New or Used? The Avensis is a NICE car.

same for BMW - 10yrs or 100k free service and 6 times winter/summer tires change.

I used to pay Fr.1600 for full insurance for my 325i touring.

What colour are the cars??

Volvo now offers

5 year/150,000 km warranty

10 year/150,000 km free service

3 year/150,000 km free wear and tear repairs

Can anyone please explain what does the 10year free service mean in real life?

Is it only for labour, and you have to pay for oil, filters etc. or does that include everything as per the service manual.?

Labour for services included, expect to pay maid dealer prices for parts and fluids,

What does that matter?

if he wants a black one and the bmw is black and the volvo isnt well easy choice........

I had a S60 for a year.

Positives are: It will be better in Winter, a lot of BMWs get stranded when things get slippy. There aren't too many BMWs in Graubunden.. There will be inevitably more added options and the interior is more luxurious.

Drawbacks are: worse depreciation and a bit tricky to park in multistory car parks due to the turning circle.

Choosing cars is a lot easier when you only have to consider the colour.

"It's all very well telling me it's got 300bhp, twin camshaft V8, overspruning suspended, active wing mirror, but what colour is it?".
