Costco in Zurich!

Aligro always had great meat, and like Costco, great seafood! great cheese selection, but you must have a hungry big family to finish it, as it sells large cuts.

There is one in Morges, like Sky says, and another one around Geneva, methinks.

do they sell just food, or do they also sell TV, clothes, nd other random houshold stuff you suddenly cant live without?

There is no reason to get angry. Aligro in the past few weeks distributed printed info about what they have on offer. The prices ARE a bit lower than Migros and Coop, rather around Aldi and Lidl. Interesting is the additional choice they provide. I am to go there soon, to check out.

Let's be clear, the "jump" over from the Romandie to Zürich includes some risks. But their leaflets gave me the impression that the Aligro-Schlieren top-brass consists of former COOP and Migros executives, who of course know the marketplace here, and its peculiarities.

With the S-Bahn, you are in their place very swiftly.

An hours drive from Schlieren ? You live in Lachen/SZ or in Rapperswil or in Feuerthalen ?

Thanks to the OP for the tip.

Do they also sell Bio produce?

What is the difference between the Business and Gourmet Card?

I think so. I would guess the difference in the cards is that Business card holders will get the discount prices any day of the week, while Gourmand is restricted to Fridays and Saturdays with a minimum spend of CHF100 iirc.

They have the best and most reasonably priced seafood section I have seen in German-speaking Switzerland. Usually have to drive to France to see such a selection.

Well, yes and no. I don't think I've ever seen TVs, though I don't go often. But they have kitchen appliances and I once they had a rack of random clothes and some other random stuff. But it's not really like Costco. You wouldn't go specifically to see what random stuff if for sale cheap.

Landi would be more likely to have cheap TVs, etc.

Aligro's the bomb, there's been one in Geneva for at least 10 years. We got our Christmas turkey and oysters there. If you eat out in Geneva, chances are your restaurant got their produce there.

Some of their prices just can't be beat. On our last visit we got a kilo of almonds for 10 francs, ridiculous.

Went to the Schlieren one today to stock up for NYE. They have a bloody brilliant beer & wine selection.

A shed load of UK ales & international beers including IPA standard & pale, Fullers London Pride & Black Cab, Witchwood Hobgoblin, Singha, Tiger, Icnusa, Sapporo, Brooklyn to name a few & all at around 30 - 40 chf for 24 bottles.

Also a huge wine & spirits section with some super choices & I reckon an average of a good 3-5 francs per bottle cheaper than Coop on most stuff.

(Noted: Oban at 48chf & Hendricks at 36 chf)

New fan here

Went along this morning for "a look" and a trolley load later, I can confirm that they have brown sugar. 4.20 for a 1 kg package.

Prices in general are so so, but I haven't seen a selection like that since I was, oh, in another country!

The information desk told me membership is not mandatory, but is required to profit from special offers. When shopping Friday or Saturday, special offers (red shelf-edge labels) only kick in once you've spent 100 CHF or more.

And also very important, they have plenty of pork spare ribs for my BBQ!

Yes. That's right & if I'm not mistaken they have beef ribs too. I'm telling you, they have really good selection of cuts. Better than any Migro/Coop I've been to.

As for price, yesterday I cooked up some brisket/flank from Aligro and I checked the price: 14CHF a kilo and it was very good.
