I do get bored always having to shop at Migros and Coop. Will be nice to go somewhere new for a change.
Now, if only our freezer was bigger.
It’s not French, it’s Swiss and all their other stores are in the Romandie part of Switzerland. Opened their 4th store here at Matran last year. Frozen veg section is very good too, both for price and variety, and also the fresh if you want to get larger quantities. Certainly much easier to join that Costco’s restrictive membership rules. You can become a member via their website as well; simply select the Gourmand card option and you’re good to go. Like everywhere else, a lot of things are cheaper, but others are not so you still need to shop around.
Nope, no special conditions at all.
It is correct that not all items are cheaper, but the ones that are are astoundingly cheaper.
In reference to the Migros/Coop monopoly you mentioned, the correct term would be duopoly, although some may find the word cartel to be more fitting.
Yes, I'm in a pedantic mood at the moment
Merry Christmas to you too.
2.5k bag of frozen carrots 9.70
2.5k bag of frozen leeks 8.50
2.5k bag of frozen diced peppers 11.30
Iirc, as it’s some time ago since I last bought them, an 800g bag of frozen carrots at Migros was around the 4 to 4.50 mark which is the only other place I’ve found that does frozen carrots without peas being in the same pack.
It won’t be worthwhile to make an hour’s journey there for you, Principia Discordia. If it’s on your doorstep you can make some savings, but not with that length of journey time. Better to find your nearest Aldi and Lidl stores and use them instead. The range of goods isn’t as extensive obviously, but they often beat Aligo’s prices.
Keeping aside the discussion of if it is cheaper or not (I wouldn't know, I hardly do any shopping there), it is aimed towards shopping for events/parties maybe even resale.
For example, you probably won't find the massive can of tuna that Aligro sells in the usual shops.
I like Aligro. It has good seafood, spice, booze and international sections. They also have more cuts of meat than you'll find at the Coop/Migros, more fish options both fresh and frozen, more poultry options, and they have good sales. The last time I bought pasta, DeCecco was 99c/unit in packages of three.
I don't shop there all the time because often you have to buy a lot, like the 3 packs of pasta. And I can get sucked in and buy stuff I don't need. For example, I had to buy 4 packs of Doritos. I just got them because I haven't had them in ages. However, what am I now going to do with 3.5 packs of Doritos? lol Oh, you can also buy kilo packs of baking soda.
If I'm in the area and I have time, I'll go in and have a look around.
I should also say I find the quality is much better than Aldi or Lidl.
You also have to make sure you spend a certain amount to get the discount prices. Iirc, having not shopped there for a while, you have to spend at least CHF100 on Fridays and Saturdays with a Gourmand card to get the cheaper price. Otherwise you pay the slightly higher price.
Still, if there’s an Aligro near you, it’s worth having a look around and comparing prices. You might find items that are cheaper than you can get elsewhere so it may be worthwhile shopping there. Pretty much the same as with Costco - we know they have some things cheaper that we like to buy/use, but other things they’re not really that good on. Aligro is the same I expect.
Now, if only Aligro would do those lovely Costco birthday cakes for £10 … (sigh)
