My 5 month old son has a bad cough and cold since the last 2 days. I have only the salt nasal solution which I have tried on him but its not very helpful. Can you pls suggest something which will help him recover faster.

A visit to the doctor?
Go to the doctor please!! It can be the RS virus. Our daughter had that when she was that age and the main symptom was coughing.
I would also recommend the doctor. It might be a bit of a cough and a cold but only a doctor will be able to give you that diagnosis.
In the meantime keep him warm and keep his fluids going - if you are breastfeeding perhaps this will bring him a bit of comfort, too.

if its just a cough and cold get thee to a pharmacy, say you've got a toddler with a cough and cold and you want to get a selection of whatever they've got. You should find a liquid for him to swallow containing paracetomol and a variety of other things for his throat and sinuses. If it gets worse or doesn't clear up in 3 to 4 more days go to Kinderspital

I agree i would go to the Doctor with everything going around at the moment i would want peace of mind, and also the Doctor can give you the best medicine to help your baby get better faster.
For a 5 month old, especially if it is their first illness, get it checked out and get the doctor's recommendations.
Is your child immunised for whooping cough?
Thanks everyone for the response. I did go to a doc and my child is now much better. Yes, he had been immunized against whooping cough at 3 months.
