I'm moving to Basel in about 3 weeks with my boyfriend Huw, who has recently accepted a new job in the city.
We will arrive in Basel at the end of October and would love to meet new people and find our feet as soon as possible. I will be looking for work however I speak little German at the moment so understand this may be more difficult until I can improve my language skills somewhat.
We love to travel and explore new cities so are really excited about our move but of course would welcome any help/advice/tips etc anyone can offer.

It'll seem hard at first to get used to everything, but EF is there to help. Pretty much anything you'll come up against has been done by someone on the forum, so you're never alone.
Welcome Laura from a fellow northerner! I'm from the north of Manchester, have been in Switzerland full time for four years, my husband for almost twelve. I hope you both get to love this wonderful country as much as we do!
Wow, thanks everyone!!! I feel welcome already, especially from fellow northerners/MCR folk, sometimes that mentioning Manchester can have the opposite effect.
Sorry for the delay in thanking you all however this week has been stressful attempting to plan the relocation of our cats, though fingers crossed it's all sorted now.
We get to Basel on 31st October so hopefully we'll catch up with some of you soon.
H'mmm, well not too sure yet as my skills and experience (all in the UK public sector) don't apply to anything specific in Basel however I'll happily take anything that comes my way. For the next few months at least i'll attempt to learn some more German and find my feet first then explore the job market some more.

Hope the move went well! I moved out here with my boyfriend too, who has started working here. I have been here just over a week so also trying to find work/places to live! all a bit crazy!!
My boyfriend and I have moved across 5 days ago. I leave tomorrow to long distance it between Basel and edinburgh but will move to basel full time in march. My boyfriend started his new job in Basel today so I hope he is getting on ok. I am originally from Liverpool but live in Edinburgh since university. We only visited Basel for the interview so made a big decision based upon a one day visit! But so far things are going well. I am trying my best with basic german and everyone putting my to shame speaking excellent german French and English and I can only speak English. I need to find a job too and fingers crossed meet some new friends. Will be coming back regularly for weekends between now and feb so happy to meet for coffee and chat and help each other find our feet!
