Here's a quick update of my Covid infection for those who are interested:
Well, I officially got tested at 11.25 yesterday and received an email at 5 pm the same day confirming I was positive. I am now awaiting a call from the Contact Tracing Agency to confirm my length of isolation and get a code for the SwissCovid possible infection app.
I got two potential infection notifications: one on the 24.2 and the other on 25.2. The first two I've ever received. Does the app help? Well, I was warned so when the first symptoms appeared, I became suspicious immediately and could react accordingly.
My timeline of symptoms so far:
1) Monday morning: warning on my app
2) Monday evening: I developed a runny nose and felt a slight pressure in my lungs
3) Tuesday evening: fever with aches and pains.
4) Wednesday: the fever had diminished but my cold was getting worse
5) Wednesday evening: slight fever and feeling quite poorly in general
6) Thursday: I've got a bad cold and am surrounded by tissues.
Anyway, I'll survive this flu-like virus but I can see how it can be deadly for those suffering from weakened immune systems.
7) Friday: I'm a snotty mess with a raw nose and a cough. I still feel sweaty and uncomfortable so this virus must still be active. Contact Tracing must have forgotten about me so no news on that front.
I know multiple people who have caught the virus with varying degrees of symptoms and lengths of recovery.
8) Friday afternoon and I get a call on my cell from the police. They called to let me know that contact tracing has tried to call me on my landline unsuccessfully. I don't have a landline. The kind officer informed me that many errors have been occuring on the administration side so I should call the agency ASAP. I told him I would and that he could also stop by if he wanted to ensure I was in isolation. He just laughed and said they have more important things to do. Am I not important?
So I called contact tracing who had none of my contact details but did have my test results. The young girl informed me that I could end my isolation tomorrow unless I still have symptoms. In that case, they could extend my isolation by two days only. She then sent me a government link to apply for a recovery certificate. I'm not sure if my app certificate will be automatically updated.
She thought cases haven't been spiking and most who have been infected was a result of being at fasnacht. Who knows?
Sadly not, I had Covid over Christmas and now again, still waiting for my PCR results but two positive lateral flows and a very slight cold.
I did ask about a booster (I only got my call to boost on day 3 of my December infection) but was told to wait 4 months as infection is better than booster.
Anyway, we will see what my immune system remembers from last time.
That's frustrating. I wonder if we'll be in perpetual potential infection situations until our bodies develop enough immunity to fight off the virus on its own.
I just caught covid from a toddler where I am staying in Australia!
I am fully vaccinated with Moderna and got my booster two days before Christmas 2021. Exposed to Covid-19 2 March 2022. Probably Omicron variant as that is prevalent in the local community at this time.
Exposure: Wednesday Evening. Toddler showed symptoms 6 hours after contact. (Toddler too young to be vacced, caught from partially vacced mother, was being tested every day for 8-12 days from initial exposure), who in turn caught it from an unvacced family contact, who probably caught it from contact during medical treatment.
Isolated: Immediately
Negative test: Saturday (72 hours after exposure) - no symptoms
Positive test: Sunday - mild symptoms of a stuffy nose.
3x vaxxed, but Ive been sick with covid since symptoms first showed up on Monday morning. Tested positive Monday night (self test) and started isolating, then tested positive again on Tues. evening (lab test).
Ive had a runny nose, been sneezing often, some coughing here and there, mild headache off and on, low energy, body aches, mild fever.
The worst aspect for me is lack of good sleep - i wake up after an hour or two of sleep feeling sweaty and gross, take a shower, then spend another hour or two or three trying to fall back asleep again. Rinse and repeat, day and night..
Am I the only one that finds we have now reached the stage when we can forget Covid? If we had a mild cold or flu would be posting the fact on the internet?
I admit I did the same myself a month ago because, despite being triple vaxxed I tested positive. It was a mild cold and over in 2 days. If I get it again, I wonโt mention it.
I think we are almost there but as long as itโs highly contagious and people need to go into a 5-day isolation, the effects of Covid on the job market are still significant.
Not yet for me as a friend just had to go to hospital due to complications and as the latest variant seems to be less "benign". I ฬll just keep on being careful for a while longer, those masks do not bother me so I will wear them.
I'm not sure people who have lost family and friends to it are going to forget it in such a hurry.
I also hope that some clever people are going to sit down with all the data and conduct a meta-data study on it all and so we can really understand what works in protecting people, what doesn't and more importantly, how we should deal with a viral pandemic next time.
I would hope so because it is not gone a way and left unmanaged it is very likely new strain will emerge.
And the reality is the we have no idea of what the long term impact of having had this virus is and we won't know for may be 15 to 20 years. And it seems there is some doubts about whether or not our current equipment is sufficient to even detect the impact of the virus on people.
On Monday last my son's team had a meeting where masks were not worn - they are all young people. Today all but two, including my son, are out sick with the virus, not isolating but actually sick and unable to work. Now if you have that replicated through out the workforce it will have consequences as well, especially in a time of war.
I hope it works out but I don't have great confidence in it.
