cracked bumper and MFK

hi, got a car with a damaged (cracks ) in the rear bumper. Will it pass MFK as is? Worth glueing/soldering prior MFK? thanks

here the pic

I doubt it will pass. Best bet would be to get it fixed.

Should pass no problem, I've done far worse.

Tom

I have one since a few years, passed twice (the last time two weeks ago) without it even getting mentioned.

Not passing will simply mean that you have two weeks to fix whatever they deem in need of fixing (the details may differ a bit by canton, not sure). In some cantons the confirmation of the repair can be submitted by certain garages, no 2nd visit to the StVA necessary.

We had similar damage on our old Rover, held together with cable ties, glue, and black paint. Passed the visite several times without any problems.

Worth trying to pass before forking out money to replace the damaged piece.

thanks all for the inputs - I'll give it a try and await for MFK. I'd be reparing myself (soldering rather than glueing). reverting!

On what basis? MFK is about roadworthiness, not cosmetic perfection.

basis is it may scratch some kid's leg if they walk too close to the car or something along those lines. Seen this before.

I'm not saying that makes sense, just the kind of stuff you hear when you go for the MFK. But yes, best thing is just to give it a try and see.

Sorry to bump a year old thread but would these two rear bumper holes cause an mfk failure?

Don't think so - should be ok.

And as said previously, in case that this is a problem you can try to fix that after MFK.

Indeed, I once had to saw 4cm off my exhaust pipes for the exact same reason.

Did improve the tone though from my cherry poppers.

Pretty sure that will be OK if you get rid of those bits sticking out. 80 grit sand paper, trim with a knife and / or similar. I have been told to fix a bumper, cracked 2 inches long from the inside edge near the body towards the outside of a corner (top face only). Vertical Outer surface was perfect, no obvious snagging points, Zurich STVA. It wasn't the sole reason for failure, but they said it was not acceptable.

Thanks guys, that helps, I will leave as is when the MFK is done.

Also know if they check brake pad thickness/brake rotor thickness during MFK?

Yes

Of all the things to keep nice and functional on a car, tyres and brakes should be top of the list.

Getting going is easy, stopping is more important.

Yes a visual check of brake disc thickness, and pad thickness if visible. My brakes were working absolutely perfectly on the rollers, and the brake disk surface was perfectly flat. There was that lip from wear on the outer edge. One headlight was out of alignment, so no pass on that day. So either fit new discs or written verification with a garage that discs were still in spec.
