anybody know the Crissier area? is it a nice place to live? I have a job interview there soon. Is accomodation as difficult to find as in lausanne?
From what I remember its quite a commercial/industrial area, hence not as nice a place to live as Lausanne.
Its a tale of two villages -its got a very nice
village bit with actually the 'best' restaurant in lausanne (i think it's this
one )...however the whole thing is surrounded by
motorways and shopping malls . Also public transport into town isn't what it is elsewhere.
So in a word - maybe?
I'd bite the bullet and try and find a place in Lausanne. Unless you like motorways. And a big co-op.
It is like a suburb, outskirts of Lausanne (trying to avoid the Baden terminology).
Like others said, more like a major road intersection and shopping/industrial. Some large highrise apts. in the area/nearby.
On the positive side, it is one of the flat areas of Lausanne, good if you prefer this over the more vertical parts of Lausanne.
how about commuting from Yverdon? Is that plausible with public transport?
According to the CFF website, yes. However, why you'd want to sit half an hour on a train to Lausanne and then bus it to Crissier when you could live in Lausanne and drive there in, er... 15 minutes, is beyond me.
Depends on the job, working hours, pay, family etc.
well a nice flat in Lausanne would be ideal, if it were possible to find one. I thought Yverdon might be easier in that respect.
Yverdon/Crissier would be a horrible commute. Morges/Crissier would make much more sense, if you are looking for places NOT in Lausanne.
The easiest commute, of course, is Lausanne/Crissier. (Crissier is virtually part of Lausanne, just on the outskirts, right off the freeway). The number 18 bus goes right from downtown in the Flon up to Timonet, which is one of the stops in Crissier. Takes about 20 minutes, give or take a few.
See - someone who knows what they're talking about. Don't ask me. I know nuffin
I've never even been to Morges. Or taken the number 18!
I'm mentioned this before - but Crissier has the best
Mcdonalds in Lausanne (Switzerland even?). If thats not a reason, well i don't know what is!
Isn't a McDonalds a McDonalds?
Lausanne has better pubs. And the best Guinness in Switzerland (so I'm told)
*shaking head in disbelief*
Not everything that looks the same, is the same
One other little village that is nice that is out near Crissier is Prilly. You could also look there. OK, I'm probably going to get groaned at here, but I would not recommend Renen. I find it to be downmarket and a bit dodgy. There, I said it. Let the groans begin.
Woah woah woah. Easy there. Lets not say things we'll regret.
yep - this makes a huge amount of sense, if you drove Morges --> Crisser in the morning you'd be going against the traffic. It might eve be simpler in some ways than driving out of Lausanne, which would put you in slap bang in the flow of all the Lausanne--> Geneva commuters.
For the same reason the whole lakeside to say Gland would make some sense (Nyon for example as a nice compromise sized town)? Even Divonne in France would not be ridiculous
Ha! The Mickey D's in Crissier is one of those two-storey jobbers, and, compared to other Swiss McDonald's, it's giant. It would look right at home in Baton Rouge or Salt Lake City.
Prilly is another good suggestion.
My final offer though = Saint Sulpice. If you've got the money to live by the lake
Yes, my dream. To find a waterfront apartment in Saint Sulpice, Pully or Lutry, (not Ouchy, the traffic is horrendous). One side of the apartment looking down into the little village, the other with a terrace looking out over the lake and my boat in the harbor. It's nice to dream, isn't it?
I know what you mean, but don't completely rule out Renens. There are some nice areas that fall under the 1020 postcode. For instance Malley and Bourdonnette. They're on the town borders with Lausanne and Prilly, on the Metro line, and are literally only 5 minutes walk from the lake.
Out around Renens central is a different story though.
