CTO Salary in Zug

Hi guys,

I just got a job offer for CTO role in Zug. Now I’m in the negotiation stage. Company has around 70 employees. And I will have around 30 people to manage. I’m also quite young, and had no manager experience before.

What could be a salary for this position with my experience?

What are you thinking to ask?

What is the space of the company, blockchain/insurance/fintech/maritime/retail?

It’s fintech company. Have an idea about 140-160k

I hope you're aware that your potential employers could be reading this forum.

Why not? What am I asking wrong?

Nothing 'wrong' as such, but if you're given advice in public, and if you hint at your own tactics then you could be weakening your negotiating position. On the other hand, you might decide that the value of the advice is worth more than the possible downsides.

Personally, I might have said Zürich just to put them off the scent. Or perhaps the job is in Zürich, and you've said Zug instead? (Don't clarify this, please!)

Offered a CTO position with no management experience. A big risk for any company and indeed for yourself.

An experienced CTO should be up to 250-300k or more for that size company. Skills, knowledge based because no one else wants the job (quite normal in IT) would get about 150-170k. Is it really a CTO position or have they just called it that?

Run or keep the fridge stocked with Pepsi Max.

Thanks for your reply. This is a real CTO position, and any way regardless the salary it would be a big step for me.

You sure you're up to the job ?

I think 250-300k is pretty high.

I know CTOs ranging from 160-200k (base salary) .

Good luck.

Just do as you're doing and make sure that you are paid appropriately for the accountabilities and responsibilities. Perhaps with a six month salary review when you know the role better.

Seems to be a dearth of CTO's in Switzerland (real life experience here). Many sought after programmers in the Fintech/Crypto/Blockchain are actually paid more then senior management. Crazy, in other industries, but true now. Hence the non-movement of the code monkeys into management.

Due to the scarcity and then oftentimes year or more long search, larger companies will happily pay higher range. Still not many knowledgeable, or with the capacity, CTO's in the aforementioned IT areas.
