Anyone know of a place that makes custom molded footbeds/insoles for boots? I've tried Superfeet but I guess I have exceptionally high arches and still experience foot pain even with them.
My husband has probably one of the worse cases of high arches and despite this problem has been able to successfully lead a professional snowboarding career. He recommends going to:
Company Heierling in Davos directly behind the train station.
He also said, don't expect the boot to fit perfectly the first try. Usually it takes a couple tries for it to fit just right for your specific foot.
Over nearly 20 years I've tried a few different brands of boots. Most recently I've been riding the Burton Ion with red Superfeet footbeds, which didn't seem to help all that much. I love the boot overall though!
I'm curious, as another person with high arches, which boot does your husband ride? And what kind of inserts did he get?
Thanks a lot for the hope! It would be so great to enjoy my passion without the debilitating foot pain.
Ski Pro Rental in Thalwil. Ask for Rene, he knows feet and how to mold something to them. I LOVE my custom inserts and are worth every franc. I paid 80CHF which is CHEAP compared to Beaver Creek where you will pay $200 for custom footbeds.
I know nothing about snowboard boots but the guys above did my ski boots and did a great job.
I have super high arches but also have very wide feet so I needed the shells widened significantly.
I have had $80 inserts in ski boots which you should be able to get from some Intersport stores molded in the shop. I had ones made at Intersport Lenzerheide. They heat them, you stand on them while they mould to your feet.
Rene heats a mold taka makes the insert from the mold and will fine tune it to your foot and comfort. The difference is the heated inserts last a season or two (depending on how often you go) whereas the inserts that Rene makes should last for the rest of your skiing/ Snowboarding days.
From bitter experience I know that molded footbeds are not always the right experience, I have particularly bad feet (extreme forefoot varus) I started with an orthotic from a podiatrist that was 3/4 length with a full length top cover and I was looking at getting boot heaters, and a so called expert boot fitter ( apparently he used to fit boots for the US ski team in past!!) said the orthotics were not suitable for skiing as they were not rigid all the way to the end, so I paid good money for custom footbeds molded to my feet with boot heaters fitted to them but they did not have the appropriate correction so they caused me discomfort and messed up my skiing.
If you can try and find a boot fitter/footbed maker who has at least some basic podiatry training then hopefully you want have the same experience that I had.
Sorry it took awhile to get back to your question. I've just asked him the different makes. The boot is NorthWave (yellow hard boot... Northwave 950). You can also take a boot from UPZ, they are the same. The innershoe and sole is from Heirling (which I wrote above in the previous post. He says they last forever... he's been using them at least 8 years)
PS... Just wanted to add that his arch is so high, there is no part in the middle which touches the ground...
