My boyfriend has the AG / GA and he got an offer for a "companion" ticket for a day. We would like to use it in the more efficient way to visit something great in Switzerland from Zürich (where we live).
Do you have any suggestion? There are so many things to see that we are a bit lost when searching. We are open for something in the nature (walking up a mountain) or in a more urban environment.
We already know Geneva/Lausanne, so not there, but any other place in Switzerland would do.
Have a good read of the terms of the companion ticket before you make the booking. I found that, for the trip did, it could only be used if the GA card holder bought a Swiss Pass 1 day ticket.
We went to Davos & Klosters a couple of weeks ago using the companion ticket offer. We went up Schatzalp on the funicular, did the wasserfall rundgang and thoroughly enjoyed it. The snow was still a few feet deep, so we needed yaktrax for the walk, and finished off with a lovely lunch at the Panorama restaurant. If you go for this, remember to call into the information office at the train station to collect a couple of free walking maps.
P.S. To make the trip from Zurich simpler, just do one change at Landquart, and call into Klosters for a while on the way back. Oh...nearly forgot...you can hire a sledge at the funicular and take the sledge run back down the mountain.
That is a good idea too. I have used the GA to the following day trip: Luzerne - then take the boat to Vitznau - Cog train to the peak of Rigi. On the way back you can either take the other cog train to Arth Goldau, or take the same one back to Rigi Kaltbad - cable car to Weggis - boat back to Luzerne.
I think we will go on the mount Rigi and check out Luzern as well.
But we will definitely use the other suggestions later on when I might get the AG myself. If this is possible it would be great to visit the Liechtenstein
