Have any of you seen decaf coffee in coffee shops in Switzerland? If so, what is the appropriate way to order in German?
Thanks in advance!
ask for decaf - "cofiene frei bitte"
I have heard caffeine-free coffee referred to as 'kaffee hag'. A trade name, perhaps?
Same places as vegan milk and de-proteinized meat????
In German "Ich bin ein dumkopf, helfen sie mir bitte".
Ok, ok, dumb joke, mea culpa
I'm guessing you intentionally misspelled dummkopf to make a point..?
Kaffee Hag is the commonly used brandname here,

You can order a Kaffee Hag in a tearoom here and you wil get a decaf cup of coffee
Migros sells it as Kaffee Zaun ( a pun invented by migros founder G.Duttweiler,as Hag is Swi/ger for fence as is Zaun in high/ger)
Jacobs stock coffee called BALANCE which contains only 50% cafeine
La Semeuse, is a local coffee roaster and they have not only decaf coffee, their website is in english as is the webshop

That's right: it's the name of a well-known (at least in Italy) decaf espresso coffee.
Hate to be picky, but your sentence would be spelled something like. . . .
"Ich bin ein D um m kopf. H elfen S ie mir bitte ."
Works best as two sentences in my opinion.
BTW some people like the taste of coffee but don t want to stay up all night
Cheers
So, I went into a coffee shop this afternoon and in a horrible American accent said, "Ich bin ein Dummkopf. Helfen Sie mir bitte".....the server promptly brought me a cup of decaf.
Thanks for the tip!!
In addition, some folks realize that decaf is not caffeine free, rather it's reduced by about 75%....they also might like the taste.
You could just cheat and go to a Starbucks, they do speak American Coffee ..
I did try that, but the closest thing was "coffee light"....I'm not really sure what that was.
Also, why does Starbucks open so late (7:30am), at least in Bern? Oh well, that must mean I was waking up too early.
I've never heard a Starbucks employee (in Zug or Zurich) say "coffee light" , they always said "decaf" (in fact I think it says that on the menu as well).
Stewy, try Cafe Spettacolo on either the Bahnhof or the new shop on Schauplatzgasse .... open from 6.30am.
Also, if you are looking for a "light" milky coffee, ask for a "helles schalle"
