Declaring an item that is to be received by Post

Hi,

Suppose I have ordered something from abroad that I know exceeds the duty-free limit and will be subject to customs fees when I receive it in Switzerland. Is there somewhere that I can go, declare it, and only pay the VAT, instead of waiting to get a bill for VAT plus processing fees? Something similar to what we do at border points.

Thanks

No, but you can pay it online

Do you want to pay import costs conveniently online and decide when and where to receive your consignment? While benefiting from a discount of CHF 1.50 per consignment on the basic fee for customs clearance?

Having your package examined to deem whether the VAT/import duty etc amount is correct, it’s not illegal and so on is a separate issue.

Thanks. I already have that service. But what if the package is delivered by e.g. DHL? Then "clearance fee" is definitely added to the VAT?

You did say "Post". Not sure if there is a way.

The shipper can pay all that upfront and many now do which makes it so much easier.

I meant it generically. Sorry for the confusion and thank you for the information.

Then you are screwed.

How much? :-s
