Delivery of gifts to Geneva hospital

Hi,

My fiance is having surgery at a hospital in Geneva and is quitting smoking at the same time. I can't be there with him, but I wanted to send him something everyday to let him know I'm thinking about him. Day one I have flowers coming, and Day four has a Alinghi souvenir arriving. I thought maybe for Day 2 or 3 I could send him a bottle of champagne, and the other day something else (that I haven't thought of yet...)

But are their stores in Geneva that would deliver champagne (or wine is fine too)? I tried LeShop and Coop. Coop requires a $300 minimum if I'm understanding correctly, and LeShop won't take my American-based credit card.

Any other suggestions on either little "I'm thinking of you" gifts to have delivered or on ways to order a bottle of champagne?

Thanks!!

I'm not sure you can have Champagne sent to a hospital.

How about a delivery of Teuscher chocolates (they will deliver)

These are fabulous, and they have champagne truffles too

I've used them several times, to send a happy thought far away or just in town.

I don't think any hospital anywhere would allow alcohol to be delivered!! As mentioned above, what about chocolates? If he is giving up smoking he may get food cravings. If he was allowed to drink alcohol he would probably want to reach out for the cigs anyway.

I don't know at all about the hospital / alcohol prohibition.... ok it wasn't delivered to the hospital but I've had wine at at least one hospital in town ( clinique general beaullieu ((SP? )) they had in fact a better wine list than I've seen in some restaurants.

and hopital de la Tour certainly serves alcohol also

where will your fiance be staying?

(meantime I'll have a little look around.. I think there is one shop in town that delivers )

EDIT::.phone the hospital to see if they will allow delivery and then phone these people.. they have been very helpful for me in the past.

Thanks so much for the great suggestions! I've already sent an email to the Teuscher store in Geneva. (The store itself doesn't have a website, but the main Teuscher site looks great.) And they even have a little decorative box of a skier -- that's the reason for the knee repair operation so I'm sure he'll laugh...

And he is staying at the Clinique Generale Beaulieu on 20, Chemin Beau-Soleil. (Very pleasant names for a hospital!)

I looked at the hospital's website, and it looked more like a hotel than any hospital I've ever visited in the states. So I just thought that maybe in Europe the rules were different.

So if you know a little store that might deliver a bottle of champagne there, I would be happy to give them a call and ask. (And I was hoping he'd take the bottle home with him, not drink it there.)

But the idea is to send a little something every day. I'm not totally stuck that it has to be champagne so I'm open to more ideas.

thanks again!

formerlyfrom..

I had the fortune (?) to have surgery at clinique g'b.... I'm sure they will accept a delivery of champagne!

I don't know anything about this hospital in particular, but if it is a private clinic, they may allow for all sorts of gifts. I don't see why there should be a problem in delivering a bottle of wine or so forth, unless there is an issue with alcohol ... consumption on hospital premises might be a different issue.

One thing you might do is to contact the hospital directly. I don't know French, but what you're looking for is something akin to a concierge. In fact, they might be familiar with that word... in the US, it would probably be patient relations, patient services. But anyway, if you contact the hospital, they might be able to suggest stores, etc that will deliver.

I can help you with LeShop.

PM if you are still interested and if the amount to be paid is not enormous. We'll work it out something so you can refund me.

Just wanted to provide an update. First of all, Clinique Generale Beaulieu certainly seems more hotel-like than any hospital I've ever seen. The patients get menus for dinner!! And in addition, they were extremely helpful, even with my broken french. They delivered, at no charge, a dessert with a heart on it and a little card saying it was by my request. Isn't that sweet?

But mainly I want to say a big thank you for your suggestions. I ordered a small box of Teuschers via email, and a bottle of champagne from Lavinia, also by email. Both stores were VERY helpful and the deliveries were perfect. Thank you for those recommendations.

And another big thankyou to Cris. Even though I didn't need to take you up on your offer to help with LeShop, that was such a kind offer.

What a wonderful community here!

ya think that was nice?... wait til ya see their bill !!

just as FYI...I was relaxing as best as possible over dinner there a few years ago when my surgeon walked in on his rounds... looked at my dinner plate and "but you don't have any wine"

.

then he turned to the orderly that was just near by and told her (not asked, told ) , told her to bring be the wine list.

My kinda hospital!!

Absolutely NO problem whatsoever delivering alcohol to a state hospital and as we are talking about a private clinic here, whatever the patient wants and keeps them happy they get.

The hospital, nor the clininc for that matter, may not allow you to drink it, it all depends what you are their for. In Genolier clinic which is basicaly a heart clinic, they even provide you with a glass of Bordeaux with your evening meal as the tanins in the wine are beneficial........in reasonable quantities !
