After more than a year of a legal battle of the real state developer with various local associations, finally the town of Zurich gave the OK for the demolition of various blocks of flats & rebuilding of a brand new massive compound right in front of our flat.
They started yesterday. No prior notice - not even a note on the mailbox!
Three man with chainsaws came, and, like Attila, cleared at least 100+ trees in one day (8 of them, with bark of more than 1 m diameter). I cried the whole day
The bulldozers have now started to appear. I am sure that everything is being made by the 'letter of the law', but, is there anything that we should keep in mind? Do we have any rights? Beyond the noise, i'm concerned about the vibrations, and the quality of air. I only hope they don't blow up things!....
Any hints? (apart from ... ' buy noise cancelling head pieces')
I have a big building site right next door to me. Demolition of the previous building was done in Spring 2020, since when the whole thing has been on hold because of Covid (according to letters from SBB, who own the site).
Anyway... so far, they have been pretty good in dealing with local residents. At the start of the demolition, they sent round someone to examine the walls for cracks, to compare with afterwards. They were very meticulous in hosing everything down during demolition so as not to raise too much dust (I saw all of this close up as I was in home office about 10 metres from the works with no other buildings in between), and we also got a free window clean when the demolition was finished, although it wasn't really needed. Noise was mostly OK, although I had to close the windows when in meetings.
The new build still hasn't started and maybe this phase will be noisier, but until now it has been a minor inconvenience more than anything else. Maybe I have just been lucky?
