Dextra Legal Insurance is not really

The other party being a big company like an insurance or an hospital. This are the cases which can break you emotionally and financially. Disputes between private individuals are normally no biggie as the interests and money at stake is either low or covered by the liability insurance.

Thanks to the OP for posting this, and sorry to see some of the negative comments in this thread

I have to admit, I also used our Generali legal protection insurance for a query, where I was asking them what steps I should take to ensure that the situation would not escalate and would not become a full-on legal issue - I thought that this would be the best thing to do from my perspective, and also from Generali's perspective (to take preventative measures instead of stumbling into a potentially tricky legal situation)

But I see now that this may have been a mistake on my part, and maybe we should not overestimate the usefulness of the "advisory" aspect to legal protection insurance.

Lesson learned!

You have been here what, at least 10 years according to your profile and you used them once, not five times in eight months. Wrong lesson learned.

I logged in just to groan at this message. I am surprised they didn't kick you on the second on third "just an exchange". A legal insurance is not the place to whine because the other kid took your toy. You are either trolling or have limited contact with reality

You are just misunderstanding the service here. It's not about pay up and don't complain.

The legal "insurance" is not like a "all data included mobile subscription". It's meant as a model where you use it once in a while when you need proper legal advice (aka "the big stuff") because most of us know how to deal with the adult stuff we need to manage in our lives.

The premiums are ridiculous small if you think how much 1 HR of a lawyer costs so if you use them for all your daily issues, they would go bankrupt.

Again, it's not a subscription to legal advice for daily life, it is an insurance.

For 'free' legal advice on daily matters, sign up to KTipp/Bon a Savoir, they have a legal hotline you can call for first legal advice. TCS has the same. They spend 10 mins on phone with you and done, likely a uninstudent in training etc.

Apologies for late response. I had some 'objective' difficulties in getting back to you. 'Big stuff' you say? for a cap of 5,000 CHF, really? For the yearly premium of 500?

and thanks but no thanks for unsolicited advice, I never asked for free legal advice. On the other hand, good that you mention it, one more on my counter.

Wouldn't it be "smarter" to separate the legal insurance away from all your others - what if you go into litigation against your insurance?

On the other hand, they might be different entities, not sure about that.

This!

One uses it when going for the big fights (e.g., say someone is fired unfairly; someone's health takes a turn for the worse due to medical negligence etc.) and not for the smaller disputes, which could be resolved without legal intervention.

Yeah I think that is another approach that could also work. So far my insurance has been really good so I am happy with this approach but I can see your point.

That’s what the insurance agent recommended to us when we moved here and that’s what we did. We have all our insurance with one company and the legal insurance with another.

Big fights that are less than 5k?

Big fights are more than 5k. And this is what surprises me about OP's case. I too have Dextra, but I pay around 260 CHF per year. The T&C for "legal information, legal advice and legal support" does not indicate a "sums insured". But everything else ranges from 150,000 to 600,000.

If there's a cap of 5,000 CHF and a yearly premium of 500, I am curious about if there's been any past litigation.

Dextra customer here (CHF 350/year for the fam). Looking at OP's track record I'm expecting our premium to go down.

I chosed back in the day the Flex policy and maxxed out on all options.

To those saying I am using it for the small stuff take into account a service called Advice+ that is specifically designed for advice up to 5K CHF.

This service is no longer an option when getting a policy at the moment.

I see, then please, explain.

What is this option I selected that says Advice+ that provide legal advice and examination of a contract up to 5k?

Again - you are not spending 500 to be able to use 5000 - I am sure you understand this is a loss making plan?

You and many others are spending 500 and perhaps some will spend an amount of that 5000.

Do you get this?

If you had 1-2 cases would have likely been ok. But 5 cases is less than a year when you are a new client is worrisome from a business model perspective.

Well, I am actually spending 500 to be able to use up to 1.2M. There was no special condition where I was told they needed to have X clients that don't use their services so I could use that amount.

I don’t think you really understand how insurance works.

As you maxxed out on all options, I am not surprised that your yearly premium is high. Also, note that Dextra increased the premiums across the past two years (and, in my case, I haven't used them at all).

Might it also be possible that the Advice+ was discontinued?

Which is why they canceled the contract.
