Dialling 0800 and 0845 numbers in the UK

Hi all,

I need to phone virgin to get my credit card balance. However their number begins 0800(0). I dial the internati0onal code preceeded by 00 and it does not allow the call. Does anyone know any way around this. Also I have no internet access at the moment and was wondering if the international card from the shop was the cheapest way to call home or if there was another cheaper non internet way. Any help much appreciated.

Cheers

PS Really enjoying life out here so far.

In my experience the freephone or local call codes from the UK don't work here (had a right song and dance with the tax office!) You would have to look on Virgin's website and either see if they've got a normal number or just email them.

For cheap calls to the UK, we set up an account with http://www.10787.com/ . It's not an internet VOIP thing, you use your normal land line. You just set up the account, dial the code before you dial the telephone number in the UK and the calls get diverted through this cheap service.

No complaints so far.

Have you tried Skype? I use it to call 800# in the U.S., might work in the UK, too.

After dialling 0044, don't include the next '0', go straight to 800...

It could be the '0' causing the trouble

i also have problems dialling 0800 and 0845 numbers from my landline, i have to use skype instead

wont accept 0044 0800 or 0044 800

Have u tried the customer service number on the phone itself ? Its usally a 4 digit number or can be found under the services section on your phone....Havent tried it myself here but it worked in France !

Opps... I thought phone credit

Glad to hear that

Have you informed them of your change of address, or do they still think you are based in the UK? This is important, since your original agreement may have been based on the fact that you signed up as a UK resident.
