Differences Between ZG & SZ

Are there any major differences between the core historical societies of these cantons: SZ and ZG? One could be the religion divide but what other social/historical/cultural differences could be mentioned? Is one more pro civil liberties and another is less? Any subjective opinions in this regard? Or these populations are rather uniform?

For example, these charts looked interesting

I had no idea about the Tanzverbot/dancing ban. I need to learn about it.

Some cultural differences that come to mind.

Schwyz celebrates Fasnacht far more intensely than Zug.

Those beautiful patrician house in Schwyz were built by agents dealing with mercenaries. In fact, the upper class in Schwyz were once called Stehkrägler.

This is an interesting tool. What I think the “civil indicators” underestimate is the degree of social conservatism that exist in rural areas regardless of cantonal borders.

As for SZ, there is a tradition of opposition against any central government that is still very much alive today (Covid was one example) and is appealing not only to the traditional conservatives but also people who believe they know better how to spend their money than the state.

I don’t have strong views about ZG; it often feels like Delaware without zoning laws, and at least to me lacks any soul.

There was a good article in NZZ on SZ some years ago:

Long time ago there was a Dancing Ban on Christian Holidays (Good Friday, Easter, Christmas, etc).

Things change and by year 2016 there was no explicit Dancing Ban on canton Aargau but there was a cantonal law that said business must close at 00:15 on Christian holidays. The was even a cantonal referendum and the result was a YES to end parties at 00:15.

People were not happy with the referendum results and the canton parliament just said in 2018: not my problem, every community must decide on the closing hours of business. So, in some municipalities the places where the degenerate people congregates to dance close now at 4h00 in the morning.

That’s Argau, wondering about the Tanzverbot in other cantons.

Parties should generally be banned after 10 and on weekdays, and only permissible in “Zimmerlautstaerke”.
