Does anyone know where can I get a Digital Blood pressure measurement device?
I had hard time describing it over the phone in my poor German (MediaMarkt SihlCity). Being all the time aware that some how the usage of the word "Blot" may put off the person on phone as he might perceive it as "bloody" something!
Nevertheless, since I now intend to go to a store which has one of these things, wanted to know from someone, if I can be sure beforehand so that I could try telling: "I know you have it, now, you just have to understand what I am saying"!
Quick tip - get one with a cuff that goes around your bicep rather than the wrist based ones (which I think one of the links pointed to) as they are more accurate.
Just wondering, the difference between the expensive version and the cheaper version is in the battery, and also the number of measurements it can store in memory. Is there any other big disadvantage with the one with 89 CHF?
@UKPenguin: Do you know if this "Aktion" price is valid only with coupons etc or just walking up the store with an intent to buy would suffice?
I don't want to appear frugal when it is something related to health but does the difference between the cuff around bicep or wrist, justify the difference of 60CHF?
The need is to find out whether or not blood pressure is "way" off mark, and then go to the doctor asap. It is not to replace monthly doctor checkup. Can someone give me any quantitative comparison please? Thanks in advance.
I am not a doctor and you should really only be getting advice about this from one if you think you have blood pressue problems. Having said that, have a look at this:
I see you have already received many suggestions, but here is one more. Try your local Apotheke. I just bought a Panasonic, it cost 125chf. Your insurance may cover it if your doctor writes you a prescription for it, even if you receive the prescription after you've already bought it. Save your receipt!
An upper arm cuff is more accurate than the wrist cuffs.
I have very small wrists and my husband very large wrists. the readings were not accurate. The wrist cuffs are alright if you are "average size".
What I would recommend is that when you get one to take it to your doctor when you have your blood pressure checked. You can then use your own and compare the readings. I have to check mine daily and doing that confirmed that the wrist monitor was not suitable.
The other thing to watch out for if you are not of average size is to make sure that you can get larger or smaller cuffs for the device if necessary. I personally use an Omron 705IT with a large cuff (rather than the medium it came with). It may be difficult to find different size cuffs for OEM devices like the ones sold in Migros. This is the site I got mine from: http://www.salveo.co.uk/health/blood...e_monitors.asp
Updates: Went to the Apotheke in Bahnhofstr. Zurich. Apotheke Sammet. The lady spoke perfect English, showed me Omron machines. The one with upper arm cuff, with automatic pressure pump costed 186CHF, 3 years warranty (Model M6 I believe is the name). Said they could get the panasonic ones, within half a day, if ordered.
Went to the Apotheke in the Bahnhofplatz Shopville (Bahnhof Apotheke), one which you can see left of the entrance if you are entering Zurich HB from Bahnhofstr side. The same story, lady speaking good english, along with demo etc. Same product costs 179CHF with 3 years warranty, along with one free calibration after 2 years.
Figured out this is what I want. Paid and went home a happy man.
Suggestions to future buyers : 25m apart shops have difference in price and service. Perhaps it could be wise to shop around a little more(for those inclined to get the best deal).
