Or failing that, somewhere where they can (legally!) be disposed of for free.
I've two old bikes. Neither ridden for a few years so in fairly poor repair. Obviously I can take them down to any of the recycling centres in and around Basel, but does anyone know of somewhere that actual seeks old bicycles for repair/parts/restoration.

If there isn't a collection point near you they partner with the SBB for collection, see here:
I'd put them up for free on the 2nd handed local facebook group.
Perfect. Exactly the sort of thing we were looking for.
I asked Velafrica if they could use 13 old bicycles, most in working condition. We neighbours went into the bike-basement and sorted out the bikes who they did not want anymore or bikes that had been left there.
A lengthy process with different people at Velafrica began, many mails going back and forth. No they wouldn't take the trottinette, they were short of staff.... and so on.
Finally I found out about avoi http://www.avoi.ch in Zürich and they were happy to take them all.
The Police usually have a sale every year for unwanted or abandoned bikes.
An ex actually went once, found his stolen bike and had to pay 5 francs to get it back!!
I'll gladly take them off your hands. Sort of hobby of mine rebuilding/repairing/cannibalising old bikes.
