The Tages Anzeiger tells the story of neurologist at Universitätsspital Zürich who worked to the point of destroying his health and passed away 50 days before retirement age. The article is split in 3 parts:
From the individual perspective, the one who helped others, couldn’t help himself. The doc just prescribed himself drugs to keep going, this was not return to health only blocking pain. Pain can be blocked for a while, at some point the underlying cause of pain hits like speeding train.
From the society perspective, society failed to protect a person who helped others a lot.
The history is not recent, the doc passed away on 02.06.2021. A legal process started shortly after his death and only recently this process was ended.
I’m struggling to understand how a person who helped thousands of others can end up like this. I know the world/life is not fair…but, no, not like this.
