Does ATT have a European counterpart?

I have an I phone thru ATT, and the company store people looked at me like I had three ears when I told them that I needed to change my phone on arrival in CH. I'm sure that it probably is not supremely difficult, but I haven't found any phone company people so far who can help me....

Ideas? Thanks, M

AT&T are a US Telco

Here in Switzerland, equivalent is Swisscom, Orange or Sunrise.

Unfortunately what you want *is* kind of a three eared request and can't really be done. I suppose you could add an international coverage plan and keep AT&T if you will be back in the states a lot, but that seems cumbersome and expensive, plus people here would have to call your US number.

Chances are that you'll have to close your account with AT&T and start up new phone services here with one of the carriers FriendlyKiwi listed. Also, if you want to bring your phone to use with your carrier here, it needs to be unlocked and needs to work in Europe.

Not sure if i understood you.

You are relocating from the US to Switzerland and want to retain your US mobile number ?

-> If thats the case, almost any mobile opco in Europe is an ATT counterpart. You roam in the local networks here but pay a fortune. and people in Switzerland wanting to call you would probably not like having to dial a US # .

Are you relocating and want a Swiss number but re-use your phone device e.g. iPhone?

- Thats easy. ATT uses the GSM standard, so throw away your ATT SIM card and plug in your local SIM card. You of course lose your US number and get a Swiss number

useful ?

I think I get what you're wanting to do..

AT&T has partnered (or something like that) with Orange in Switzerland and you should be able to get a new Iphone and plan through them (that is where my hubby got his, and he was able to get the 3Gs for only $29)

I am moving in the summer and I hear that the Iphone 4g may be coming out then, so that's what I'm going to shoot for

To clarify, I am not sure if your US Iphone will work out there; my hubby got rid of his before he left here and got a new one after arriving in Switzerland. But it was extremely cheap, considering that here, it still costs well over a few hundred dollars for a new Iphone

The pics ( in Vietnam ) are out of the advanced test version of the 4G.

You can get an iPhone with Orange or Swisscom, but that has nothing to do with AT&T.
