Does (did) anyone work for Nestlé?

Hello everyone!

Unfortunately I am new in Switzerland and do not know a lot about rules of job-seeking. So please help me

I would love to work with Nestlé Research Center in Lausanne. I have applied for some vacancies but have got a negative answer... but for me this is the one company I wish to work for. That is why in a few days I am going to visit it and discus my candidacy and I need your advices.

1. What should I say on reception and where should I go? I mean to a personnel department or to department(s) where I would like to work and will they allow me entrance without invitation?

2. I just want to work there, no matter which post I can get, I believe I can have career aggrandizement. I would like to get internship there, but unfortunately I am already PhD and cannot apply for this. May be you know some programs I can participate in?

3. I would be happy to get any other advice, but please do not say that I can find other job for the time being and continue to apply for job in Nestle. Because if not Nestle I will change my field of work ... which means better salary but no enjoy.

Thank everyone who read my message and thank you very much if you are going to answer me

Regards

You'll only work for Nestle or you'll change careers? What do they offer, unlimited free cookies for znuni?

Sorry I can't be of assistance but good luck all the same .

I worked for a company co-owned by Nestle and l'Oreal. The benefits at Nestle are really good if you pay attention. You can visit the company shop, get some proper deals on new cars (if that's your thing), and they can be quite generous when it comes to training etc...

However, it's not easy getting in, I was quite lucky actually, and I've tried to help a number of friends get their foot in, but it almost always boils down to them looking for someone to work for a 6-12 month stint rather than getting permanently employed. Very very difficult to go from being a temp to a perm.

All I can say is good luck really, I worked (still do) in IT, it can be very different to get into Nestle IT than it is to research and the like. I would think with a phd you've got some leverage all ready. They like to hire people that have done proper schooling (university/college) and will pester/query you about those things during interviews and requests for CV's.

Keep an eye out for jobup.ch, they advertise ever so often there, as well as on their website.

Oh no!! I am now in a food science and i would like to continue this, but only in Nestle. If not Nestle...then I will go to UN sisters organizations like a usual manager...which means that I have done my PhD for nothing

Nestle's not the only big food company here...

You could look into P&G (Procter and Gamble) in Geneva. I believe it's a little easier to work for. Their culture is more "US" oriented than Swiss.

Thank you, Shinigami. It seems good for me. Now even temporary work in Nestle is better than sitting home in stranger country

Absolutely no chance of getting in, you'll need to arrange a meeting before hand, don't waste the train fare and in any case you'll probably need to pass by party headquarters in Vevey

I checked P&G, Dupont and a few other companies next to Geneva,,, but for me it looks like Nestle is a really great company which does researches and develops really new products. I just love doing it!

Sorry. Just a pet peeve of my. The correct spelling of the company name is Proct er and Gamble.

Do you want to say that I cannot even come on the territory of Nestle???? but I can leave my iD at reception. And they can escort me exactly where I need to do!

how can I arrange a meeting?

Thank you. Just misprint

Anna ... for a Phd, you are coming across as remarkably naiive ... no appointment with HR / personnel, no getting past reception.

I'm going to stop short of accusing you of trolling, but let's face it ... this thread is borderline

It's private property, why should they let you wander around and waste the time of their employees.

How to arrange a meeting......Apply for a job, if your candidature is considered worthwhile, you'll get invited.

Thanks, fixed my previous post

Anna: you'll need to do adequate research and fix an appointment with just about any larger company in Switzerland these days if you wish to get a job interview. I know from practice having been at the Nestle HQ in Vevey, that the receptionist will just turn you away if you come along and have no idea who you need to be meeting (or what department) along with having an actual invitation or meeting appointment.

They are pretty organized over there in the sense that almost ALL meetings are jotted down on a list for the day, handed over to the receptionists, and they can scrutinize this list as they please. They don't particularly like hunting down people for you if you come unprepared and the reception can be a bit busy at certain times of the day.

LOL

Presumably that's a pet peeve of "mine"

OK, I understood, thank you. I apologize again, but as I wrote in the beginning I do not know rules of job-hunting here. In my country I can just visit office and say that I want to work here and they WILL talk with me.

Thank you all for advices and I declare this day as a day when I gave up without even trying

I guess I will open thread "How to find job in UN organizations". Does anyone wants to help me??"

Blimey! Which country is this then?

As long as the inquirer ensures that he or she is also holding a handgun at the time of inquiry this approach will work in any country.

Blind you Ukraine

I think people are being a tad harsh here! check the job sites, send your CV to Nestlé direct, if your that desperate to get into Nestlé the check for ANY job they have, once your in a company its easier to move around.

Worst they can do is say no.
