Does somebody knows the nearest beach from Basel area??

I come from Spain, so i just think about Barcelona. But i heard that in France there is one, not that far away.

Any idea??

Thanks in advance ;-)

City beach Basel. Perhapts a bit chilly now.

EasyJet flies from Basel to Tenerife.

Would be nice going to Tenerife, but im talking about going by car somewhere, i come from Gran Canaria, so i already know about easy jet.

Quickest by car would be the Italian riviera.

Unless you wanna drive to Italy, great trip by the way, the closest thing you get to a beach is on lake Constance around the Altenrhrein area.

Your nearest car-trip from Basel then will be to the Genoa area (~5.5 hours), but I hear the beaches there are very rocky.

Lake Constance on the Swiss/German/Austrian border (~1.5 hours) is also popular, but it's more of a Summer attraction.

French beaches require a longer drive. (~7.5 hours to Marseille)

Lake Constance its a lake...not a beach.

7 hrs to Calais - big flat beautiful beaches.

But lakes can have beaches too. What is a beach? - the bit where the water meets the land. Flattish, stones, pebbles or sand.

I know somebody driving up to London at the weekend. They could drop you at Calais.

Used condoms, dog poo, drug paraphernalia...

Belgium has some beautiful beaches too and might be slightly easier to get there too. Really really wide and flat beaches with soft white sand. And then of course they have better beer than the French. And they know how to do moules. And don't get me started on the "coffee". I love it there. I recommend checking out Blankenberge.

Considering driving versus Easyjet, you might find flying is both cheaper and less hassle. Alicante is a good airport to fly to. You can actually walk from the airport to the beach (technically you can in Barcelona too, but its much more of a hassle, and that particular bit of beach isn't that nice).

Also consider Nice and Marseille.

That's Blackpool you're thinking of.

Yeeees! However like I said, the closest thing your will get to a beach, nice shallow water, sand, grassy areas, and behind you a forest.

Just at the back of Altenrhein airport

You will have to say what exactly you are looking for. The closest part of the Med is the Italian Riviera... but my wife for example was completely disappointed by it as it isnt sandy. I'd recommend to drive one hour longer to the Cote d'Azur. Nice, Antibes, Cannes...

Ahh, much similar sentiment to what I feel myself every time I go to the lakes here. Don't get me wrong, in the dog days of summer, it really is nice to get into some very chilly water and go for a swim, beach or not.

But

It's just not the same .

I suppose that's one of those subjective things, like "love" and "friendship" ... what a beach IS perhaps depends a bit upon what you're used to expressed as being a beach.
