Does the Post in Switzerland deliver mail on Saturdays?

Just something I've been curious about. I'm sure I've seen the courier drop by where I live Mon-Fri, but I'm not so sure if I've ever seen him on Saturdays. Funny thing is that I think I've received mail on Saturdays, but I was never sure if it was just because I haven't checked my mailbox on Friday.

Waiting for a package from Canada since end of November and it still hasn't gotten here! The holidays sure aren't helping... but today is the last of it and things will go back to normal, right?

Letters, yes.

Packages, no.

Tom

Unless the package has been sent Express.

woah two forum legends answering my questions together? info overload

But only A post letters.

I think those A post letters are the documents from the government?

No, they are usually B.

Post A is fast (and more expensive) post, normally next day.

Tom

I sent a package from Ontario, Canada to Bern CH via regular post, it arrived in Bern in 6 days...This was at the end of Oct 2012

That is some very valuable information indeed. Even after living here for 12 years I didn't know that.

We need a blow kiss smiley

I think the norm is as described by the people here.

However, you can also ask at your local post (Gemeindepost) and perhaps they can tell you.

You may discover that Swiss kantons and villages may not necessarily operate with same procedures / timing.

I googled it and it said the same for all of Swiss post.

I've occasionally had parcels delivered in Carouge (GE) on Saturdays.

But Saturday morning is also when the so-and-so post-person will deliver registered letters (usually posted by expensive lawyers in the last post on Fridays), thus leading to the dread yellow slip that freaks you out until Monday morning at the earliest and completely ruins your weekend.

Does anyone know the time window that express packages might be delivered on Saturdays? Just moved apartment and waiting on a delivery, but don't want to wait in all day if the post stop working at lunch!

I can't remember specifically for Saturday, but in my experience, express can come anywhere between seven in the morning and seven in the evening. That said, it depends where you live on the delivery route which seems to be consistently the same, meaning I would have an ear open for the doorbell where I live between 10:30 and 12:00.

Thanks. Since its only our second day, I've not a clue what time the postie might appear. Looks like its a day in and hope the delivery arrives.

Did it ever arrive? I've had a package (Oct 2012) and a Christmas Card (which had cash inside) which still haven't shown up... sent from the UK.

Some packages take a few days, some a few weeks... and some never show up at all. I think customs has a lot to do with it rather than the post service.

I have been reading up on this for Parcels, the internal Swiss Priority providing it is received by the Post by 4pm (1600hrs) is delivered next working day, Mon to Friday.

Swiss-Express "Moon" is delivered Mon- Saturday by 0900hrs and something about the Post receiving it in the evening, so I guess that means can be after 4pm but before the Post closes.

I have received post letters and small packages from UK on a Saturday.

I got a package (from oversees) delivered last Saturday. It was registered post, but not express. Though it was the first time I could remember getting a package delivered on Saturday

Yes, it seems to me that overseas mail for packages is treated the same way as A priority letters internally, possible larger parcels are not!

wait to hear differently from anyone who does receive a parcel say 2kilo plus

Not sure if it helps, but our parcel guy/girl delivers usually between 12-2 on weekdays and between 7-9am on weekends. It works really well....
