Dog Kennel/Sitter St. Gallen

Hi,

Recently moved to St. Gallen from London. Looking for a reliable and reasonably priced kennel and/or dog sitter.

Dog: German Shepherd, male, neutered, 7 years old

Temperament with people: he's fine with anybody, any age. Just be nice to him and he's nice to you.

Temperament with other dogs/animals: Jake does not trust dogs he doesn't know. He's a rescue and was abused such that he's very anxious around other dogs. Once he knows a dog isn't going to go after him, he's ok. For sitting or kennels he needs to be the only dog.

I'm looking for someone who can take him for 1-3 nights at times.

Please ask any questions...

Cheers

Natzure, did you check these two threads to see if there’s anything/anyone suitable?

Perhaps a long shot, but this thread might be of interest:

https://www.englishforum.ch/jobs-wan...available.html

She is looking for a 50-100% nanny/housekeeper/pet care job but nonetheless perhaps worth inquiring, even if only a bridge solution. She is in SG.

(I don't know this poster, I just remembered the thread.)

Another thought:

Are you willing to have a sitter stay in your home rather than have your dog go to someone else's?

I, too, have dogs with 'special needs' which means that they cannot go into kennels or most care situations in an environment not set up for them. Hence, I look for someone who can move into my home while I am gone. There are not many people who do this, but I could pass on two names if you are interested. Neither is in SG, so travel might be an issue... and do be aware that this kind of care is pricey.

You could also browse through Petsitting24 to see if there is anyone listed who meets your needs. This is a site aiming to connect pet carers looking for work and people needing their services. Be aware that this is nothing more than a connection service. It is up to the pet owner to do the necessary due diligence checks on the carer and the legalities. You can browse for free, a good way to see if anyone out there might be a possibility, but to contact a carer you have to pay the membership fee.

I know how difficult it is to find responsible, reliable, skilled pet care in Switzerland, there is a huge need but very few people who are willing/able to do this. Your search for appropriate pet care should be a top priority if you must travel.

Wishing you and your doglet all the best.

Funny, when I read the thread title I thought it was referring to the Sitterhöfli Tierheim in the outskirts of St. Gallen, named after the valley of the Sitter river where it is located, nothing to do with dog sitting.

I have no idea if that place can serve your needs, though. I just lived nearby 50 years ago; it was an animal shelter and boarding kennel already back then, and I guess if it were bad it would have gone out of business a long time ago.

By the way, Byron, your dog's profile reminds me of a dear friend in Michigan and his dog, a rescue dog too. He said, "She's a German Shepherd, hence she's an attack dog. [Pause.] She has panic attacks."

Thanks! I've stumbled upon them but I guess I'm still well into CH Sticker Shock. 40CH/day seems high. In London, a nice kennel with good care was 18GBP/day. My biggest issue is that I have zero German skills, having just moved here 3 weeks ago. It's been wonderful finding nice folks like this site.

What's funny is that if I walk with the two dogs and slowly bring them together...after 15 mins, Jake couldn't care less. We think he was badly abused...

It's incredibly low, actually. Good luck finding care if you want to pay less than that!

Yup, as I said...full on sticker shock.
