Dog Walker in Zurich

Hi there

I will be moving with my dog to Zurich in a couple of weeks and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good dog walker in Zurich Kreis 4 area?

Thanks so much!

Hy, if you are still looking for a dog walker I am interested. Im a student in UZH and miss my own dog very much. Please feel free to contact me for more information.

Regards,

Mojca

Hi! Do u live nearby the Station Zürich? I work there and would love to walk your dog during my lunch break now and then! It gets me outside and I love to spend more time with dogs!

Hi mojca, my wive and I have a medium sized dog, she is 7 month old. Since my wive had an accident and broke her leg, we are looking for someone to walk our dog here and there...would it be possible to meet? We live in Oerlikon as well...

I'm looking for a dogwalker in Zürich. I have a 2 1/2 year old basset named Penny and could use a walker 2-3 afternoons a week. Lemme know

Hi Jessie,

I have a 2 year old Dalmatian mix and I'm also looking for someone to walk him 2-3 times per week. If I find a good walker I'll let you know.

There are a number that take dogs out to the Allmend but they aren't particularly professional.

Dog refuse bags all over this town and it is gross! Why do dogs have the special right to piss on anything and everything when humans cannot? Is it any less disgusting?

Hello,

If you still need, I could walk your dog sometimes, every other week better for me, but in December maybe more often, as some of my clients are on vacation and I have a little more time. Late afternoons/evenings are better for me in general.

Let me know.

Kind Regards,

Isabel

Hi folks,

I am job hunting in ZH. In meantime I would like to find ways to get out of the house, I have an old english sheepdog and a bichon frise at home and I grew up with german shepherds. I live in 8005, if anyone needs a dog walker in the area please feel free to send me a pm.

Neilsan, it isn't clear from your post - are you offering to walk dogs gratis, or are you looking to do this for a fee?

If the latter - and there is a huge need, especially around the holidays, dog carers are often fully booked this time of year - then one is required to have taken the SKN, FBA or Tierpfleger diploma, depending on the type of care provided. See this thread:

Requirements For Dog Care Providers

All the best...

Thank you for this information, as ever Switzerland is proving to be a complicated country

Job hunting is a long process so my intention would be to make some money by walking dogs while the person is at work etc. I wouldn't be able to take dogs into my home.

My old english sheepdog is still quite young and left alone for 8 hours would get bored and do a lot of damage to my back garden and I personally felt it was unfair to leave the dogs alone for so long. Initially I brought them to my parents house each day but it took away from the time I gave to their morning walk so I paid my neighbour to walk my dogs from 11-2 Mon-Fri. I will look further into the helpful information that you have provided. In the meantime if anyone wishes to take me up on my offer please PM me and will hopefully clarify what I need to dog walk by Monday! If I get enough interest to justify buying the permit I will do it..

Thanks again for your information!

Neil

ETA:

Re-reading you post, it is unclear if you have your dogs here in Switzerland or not. If so, the following applies.

But be aware that as a dog walker it's not a matter of 'buying a permit' but rather you are required to take courses.

---

Neilsan,

Because you have dogs of your own, you are already required to take the SKN courses, which are what you need to do dog walking. The SKN theory only needs to be done once* but the SKN practical is required with each dog - so you'll need to do them twice, once with the OES, once with the Bichon.

The theory course is generally done over two sessions, the practical over 4-5. Each costs in the neighborhood of CHF 150.

So - if you are sticking to dog walking there isn't any additional investment - by taking the courses that you are already required to take as a dog owner under the federal animal welfare law, you will have meet the dog walker requirements.

See the BVet website for more info on the requirements for dog owners:

http://www.bvet.ch/tsp/02222/index.html?lang=de

And here is the database of certified SKN trainers:

http://bvet.bytix.com/plus/trainer/

*The theory course is required of all first time dog owners - that is, folks who have never owned a dog registered in their names in Switzerland. Foreigners whose dogs were born before 1 Sept 2008 who later move to Switzerland with their dogs might be excused from the theory course upon presentation of their proof of ownership to the cantonal veterinaramt. Or they might still be requried to take the course, depending on the decision of the Veterinaramt.

But as a dog walker you need the theory course, so why not do it anyway. You need to understand Swiss law and Swiss expectations of dog owners if you are to take on responsibility for other people's dogs.

My dogs live in Ireland. The OES needs a lot of space and walking time(5 hours per day). I don't have enough open space nearby in ZH, my house in Dublin backs onto a 1700 acre park..

I already knew that this handling permit involves a course as my friend had to do one recently even though he had dogs most of his life(think they were in his parents name). I will see what I can do about this permit/ training, if someone wants a dog walked please PM me and we can try to arrange something. I don't have a permit but I love dogs and can manage the needs of large or small dogs.
