My father is transfering the car registration from his name to my name. As I live in Switzerland might as well use it here rather than a few weeks per year while on holiday and it's all paid for.
The car is from 2001 and only with 25000km, in the last service it only needed an air filter.
The documentation needed is well clear and thanks to all who posted. But has anyone has experience with importing a car to switzerland with more than 10 years old which they have owned less than 6 months.
Reading the legislation there is form 18.46 you can import items which were inherited.
Anyone with experience in these and importing a car?

If you have lived here less than a year you can drive it until that year is up , you might get 18 months if your lucky . You will be taxed at about 12% of market value (not much) & will have to make it Swiss legal.
If you have lived here more than a year you will have to do the registration straight. You could only use it on CH for a couple of days on UK plates, however you need that customs form to drive it at all here!
What I did when my sis gave me her car:
It was on Dutch plates , and I had been here a few years and have a Swiss license.
Drove it here on her insurance and plates.
I even got stopped by the police in Germany and asked for all paperwork...they let me on my way.
Then got into CH and was stopped again as it didnt have the vignette....I said nothing about importing and it was after hours (offices closed). All was fine again which goes against the general believe of importing straight away....maybe it was a fluke but it worked.
I left Ch again and just turned around right after the border and when I arrived told the lady I wanted to import the car. I got a police escort as you have to exit where the trucks do but I went to far . The did all the paperwork and the car was "sold to me for 3k " which they changed to 3500chf which they believed is the value for the car and chf conversion. In the end I ended up paying closer to 21% of the value ( 751 ish +80 for all docs to be translated and filled in)
Did that and 3 weeks later I had the appointment to get the emmissions test en the day after the big test. (make appointment as it is someone special for imports)
Papers needed:
COC :150 chf from bmw CH takes 2 weeks
ALL paperwork from cars first to last registration
Insurance paperwork
get it tested , call insurance guy (set this up beforehand as all they have to do then is press enter and you are good)
get plates and enjoy your new "free"car
