I put in a charge back on my credit card. Got the money back that way. The guy lost his sh*t when he realised - suddenly he was able to reply to emails.
But in your op you wrote:
So how come it worked after all?
Still, good on you.
Yup. I think people should issue chargebacks more often and more quickly when dealing with bad vendors. As you say, suddenly, they are able to communicate again.
Note only do they get a charged by the credit card company for the charge back (on top of the money they refund you) - if it happens a lot, they end up getting fines from the credit card companies too.
I was just within the time limit. UBS only give you 1 month after the invoice. So if the payment was towards the end of the billing period, you donāt have a lot of time to figure out something is wrong and go through the process of trying to sort it out.
And, yes, the vendor got charged for the chargeback on top of returning my money.
Iāve tried that⦠the account wonāt let you alter or delete the āoriginalā email address used, only add others. Fuming!
WARNING; it appears that The Grocer has recently acquired the recently defunct British Corner Shop name and website.
Reviews are as expected. Late deliveries, articles out-of-date or damaged, un-explained substitutions, etc.
Apparently
After entering administration in early 2024, the intellectual property and assets of British Corner Shop were purchased by new owners, specifically Harvey Hayer and Amar Dulayāentrepreneurs from Newcastleāwho relaunched the business later that year.
I canāt determine if the new owners have any relationship with the English Grocer.
Checking what bovril is, which Slammer is clinging his cold hands to right now I came accross deliciousbritain.ch.
Iāve not heard of them before. They do the same thing as all: They tease me with malt-vinegar, then say not available.
@Slammer you could buy tinned haggis there but it seems they donāt deliver to Germany ![]()
Has anybody ever ordered from them?
Iāll check 'em out.
