Hi,
I saw a Ricardo listing that is 5 hours far from me. That is not practical for me and the seller choose the delivery option as 'pick up by buyer'. I will ask the seller, if it is possible that a courier picks the package from their address. But which courier company has this service, if exists? Or any other recommendation?

The Swiss Post.

.
Google "Courier Service Zurich", there are plenty of feasible results.
Of course I did that. I read Swiss Post and DPD but I didn't see how to make an appointment online nor any information about it.
Some Ricardo sellers are lazy. If the package can be posted, the seller can charge the buyer for the postage and even something on top of it for the packaging if they want to. I understand some people just cannot get to a post office so they insist on pick up. We are lucky, we have post picked up at our home, including packages. Not sure about oversize packages though.
The post office has just started a special promotion until next March at the moment for small packages (those that fit in the letter slot) including signature for chf 5.50.
If the item is fragile or very valuable, (over chf 500) then the post office is not an option as the insurance is limited.
Yes, the item is over 10 kg I think. And its price is over 1000 CHF. It is a second hand sewing machine to be precise.
So I eliminate Swiss Post..
I'll check Swiss Courier.
Thank you everybody.
If you are not at home. DHL will simply leave it before your house door, in the front garden!
Use the Post, with the following receiver address,
Your name
Postlagernd - Post Restante
Post Office, Street & number
post code & town
You can then collect it at your local PO and you don't need insurance.
Unless I am mistaken, this service is not available to private customers.
With DPD, private customers can only use parcel pick up points, in other words, they will not deliver to your home.
Are you really sure that you do not want to examine what you are buying on Ricardo? Unless it is new with a guarantee, I would not have it shipped.
Most sellers on Ricardo with new items offer delivery. I bought a large and heavy item on Ricardo and the seller offered transport if I wanted.
Edit: Maybe give DHL a call.
This doesn't make sense. Swiss Courier calculated the shipment cost as 208 CHF. The first option (delivery: On request) was 1019 CHF.
I do hesitate buying without seeing it but.. travelling for 10 hours from Zurich to Chermignon-Dessus...
I will decide once I know all the options.
