Double health insurance

Hello,

I was a non europian Student and after graduating I have applied to assura. The assigned person told me I would get psychotherapy coverage as well (this was important for me). Then I received a letter saying;

I emailed them that then I did not want the Insurnace since that’s the most important thing for me now. But they still send me assura cards (written my surname wrongly) and are pushing to pay basic insurance which covered nothing and is around 570 CHF. Meanwhile I talked with Swica and I want to get the insurance with them.

Is there anything I can do?

I emailed 100 times to assura, called, and also contacted the assigned person but they just don’t reply or answer...

Thanks 😊

There have been changes to the law recently which means psychotherapists are covered by the basic insurance - maybe this is what it refers to as it says:

"This implies that no costs for treatments with a psychotherapist will be covered by the above mentioned supplementary category. "

Many insurance companies have removed Psychotherapy from their complementary insurances.

In any case they give you 10 days to decline their insurance, did you reply within 10 days and do you have proof?

Was wondering why premiums have gone up. What was the reasoning to include shrink therapy in basic coverage?

Yes, I did send two emails immediately. Also called and talked with them... but they still push me to pay basic insurance...

As the 2 are separate insurances, did you cancel both?

Send them a copy of your current insurance.

I have always had my psychotherapy covered by my basic insurance

You need to send registered snail-mail, not email.

Tom

I don't really understand, my psychologist appointments have always been covered in basic. If it is only covered by supplementary, anyone who is refused supplementary insurance for existing conditions would never be able to get psychological help.

It has always been covered by basic insurance if it was overseen by a psychiatrist, now it is covered irrespective of whether there is a psychiatrist involved.

I would imagine the increase in mental health issues in recent years and increased awareness of mental health problems is what led to the decision.

You have two insurance contracts which are separated and nearly independent of each other.

1) Mandatory basic insurance. As it is mandatory the coverage provided is the same from all insurance companies. Basic coverage must be offered indiscriminatory and cannot be denied. Once you signed up for this you can only switch the provider at the end of the calendar year.

2) Optional supplemental insurance. One can get this from any company, does not have to be same as for basic insurance. Supplemental insurance is a free market and companies can include or exclude coverage as they wish. They can specifically exclude any pre-existing conditions. Not accepting or canceling this contract will not relieve you from the mandatory basic coverage.

If you have done all correctly you should not have supplemental insurance (as you did not like their exclusion), but you are stuck with the basic insurance.
