Driving from Paris back to Zurich -- visit along the way?

I will be driving from Paris to Zurich and want to know places you'd suggest I stop at for a visit.

In the car will be

Me - Adult

3 - teenage girls (14-19).

Our trip will be to drive from zurich to Paris, spend a few day's there, visit Normandy beaches for a few day's then travel back to Zurich -- We can do the drive in one day - that's not the problem, I'm wondering if there is a place you'd recommend we visit as either an overnight stay or just a few hours.

I'll ask the girls when they have completed their exams, but I thought I'd get a head start on some research.

YES - I will ask them for their input, I want to help them by narrowing down some options.

Thanks

Reims for Champagne

depending on the road you chose, Dijon or Alsace can be a good (overnight) stop.

Yes, depending on route, Dijon or Troyes, or beautiful, small Vézelay.

It's been a few years since we have been able to travel, but back when we did we often stopped at Beaune - it's a beautiful little town.

Ma Cuisine is a favorite lunch place:

If you want to break up the journey into two days, our nieces loved staying at Chateau Vault de Lugny. A small detour from your route, but well worth it. A lovely place to relax, unwind, and the food is out of this world.

Another vote for Dijon, and JackieH's suggestion of Vézelay is also a good one if you're looking for somewhere smaller and more rural.

and very medieval and atmospheric/romantic. Hôtel des Glycines was nice.

Annecy!

Hardly on the way from Paris to Zurich, lol!

Guess not, thought it was a bit more North

these are great ideas -- thank you.

I haven't talked to the TRIO yet but I'm thinking of encouraging them for a stop in Dijon after a layover in Fantainebleau.

I'll look into the other suggestions to offer the girls.

thanks

No wonder you have problems looking for somewhere to holiday this summer...

Beaune is lovely too.

BTDT.

Are you or your guests Roman history buffs?

If so, a visit to the MuséoParc Alésia (as in, the siege of Alésia where Caesar defeated the Gauls) is quite interesting. There is a museum, Gallo-Roman ruins - and the (Napoleon-era) statue of Vercingétorix in the field where the battle took place.

Not too far from Dijon, more or less sort of on the way.

ETA:

Another interesting stop is the Abbaye de Fontenay, the the oldest preserved Cistercian abbey in the world.
