Driving in the rain / cruise control.

In view of the current weather in Switzerland (I understand it’s pretty bad), a word of advice if you must drive: Do not use cruise control. When you car slows down because it is encountering water on the roadway, cruise control will actually accelerate to make up for the drop in speed. This is just the opposite of what you want.

1. Do not drive unless you have to.

2. Slow down.

Happy motoring.

Isnt cruise control only for those who dont know how to drive?

Women.

Nope- I actually like a manual car, living int he mountains and don't use cruise control

I know more men who use cruise control. If you do a lot of highway driving, it can be useful. One of the most annoying things on the highway is people who are incapable of consistent speed. But yes, in crap weather, heavy traffic and in the mountains, it's useless.

I use cruise control on a long motorway journeys. Switch it on, climb on to the back seat, and let the car do the work.

which is exactly why I find it so dangerous

I think cruise control will switch off on most cars if the traction or stability control detects aquaplaning.

Not on mine.

How about when you're parked, can you use cruise control then?

OH is a big fan of cruise control, whereas I refuse to use it

I use cruise control on my journey of less than 40km into work because otherwise I find it too hard to stay within the speed limit! Yes I am a woman and I drive better than a lot of men if you must know!

buh buh

it is even in the Museum of Hoaxes

Bet your OH will concur.

Had to use it in the US, as cars there will speed up despite no use of the gas pedal!

Tom

the true advice is to drive to the conditions. And avoid pooled water if your car is prone to aquaplaning...!

I think mine would be OK, there's lots of intelligence beyond just cruise control.

And I rarely use cruise in Switzerland, there are too many mongs on the road. France is not too bad, Belgium is a true no-no though...!

Those who brag about being good drivers usually overestimate their own ability!

Cruise control is dead. We are now onto adaptive cruise control...

Damn straight. Don't even have to think - my radar lets me know if there's a problem, and by then the audi has responded to the situation anyway.
