Yes TRUE
As far as I have understood from this post person can drive 12 months according to license he has from non EU country, but after that 12 month he should to that drive test.
Am I right?
I have to do one shortly in Geneva, and really curious what it entails. I have both an SA license and also a HK driver's license (why Singapore is in and Hong Kong is out is beyond me as the skill required to drive on HK island is quite different to navigating sleepy Singapore) and have driven a few times here now. Seems straightforwards, but some of the actual French info signs are a mystery to me.
I live in Zurich and did this test in March and passed. You can drive the first year with your non-EU driving licence and then you must take the test. I decided not to drive in CH before the test, because I was used to drive very agressively in my country. However I took 12 lessons with instructor (money well spent, I think). The instructor explained me everything I needed to be a good driver here and now I have no problems.
At the actual test the instructor was kind and spoke to me in Hoch Deutsch. I drove the best I could till the last minute of the test, and passed.
Good luck,
marinova
I'd recommend getting at least a couple of lessons with an instructor (there are loads of English speaking ones) to point out the things that catch people out - and to tell you what the examiner is looking for - like the rules about trams and giving way to the right, how to behave with cyclists (they're big on that around here).
