Driving Test

Hello everybody. I am new in Switzerland and as my driving licence is not from an European country I need to do a driving test. Does anybody here have any experience about this? A piece of advice would be appreciated. Thanks

haven't done it but good luck anyway.

I also had driving license from my homecountry(nonEU) and gave driving test and got swiss one .But you get only one chance for it,If you fail then you have to follow whole procedure(theory, practical) which cost money and time.

when you enroll yourself for this test then you get 2 months for your practice.

good luck

Can you please explain that driving test you did. Is it only driving and how does it look like (how long and other details)

Thank you

Although it isn't exactly what you asked, you could have a look at this Thread . This guy seems to have found it useful, so you might too.

Good luck.

I started from Strassenverkehrsamt with instructor and he was telling me to go left or right. It was about 30-40 minute drive including highway.and then parked again at same place where I started.

After you parked your car you will get the result.

I drove through road with limit 50,60 and 30 in city.

Its up to instructor where he wants to take you.just be careful about cyclist, pedestrian.

Seems like these links do not function

Well it seems like normal driving test in any country which we already passed, haven't we. But we have to do it again because of non-EU status.

Yes TRUE

As far as I have understood from this post person can drive 12 months according to license he has from non EU country, but after that 12 month he should to that drive test.

Am I right?

In Switzerland do you have to take a written test before being allowed to take the road test? Or is it just the road test?

They work now.

So have scanned the whole thread and still nobody has done a report of what is to be expected form this "short, practical test".

I have to do one shortly in Geneva, and really curious what it entails. I have both an SA license and also a HK driver's license (why Singapore is in and Hong Kong is out is beyond me as the skill required to drive on HK island is quite different to navigating sleepy Singapore) and have driven a few times here now. Seems straightforwards, but some of the actual French info signs are a mystery to me.

Hi everybody,

I live in Zurich and did this test in March and passed. You can drive the first year with your non-EU driving licence and then you must take the test. I decided not to drive in CH before the test, because I was used to drive very agressively in my country. However I took 12 lessons with instructor (money well spent, I think). The instructor explained me everything I needed to be a good driver here and now I have no problems.

At the actual test the instructor was kind and spoke to me in Hoch Deutsch. I drove the best I could till the last minute of the test, and passed.

Good luck,

marinova

I did my (full) driving test here in Switzerland, and given the headache that is I'd strongly advise you to get the conversion test drive right first time so you don't need to go through all that - it's not only incredibly expensive but it's a lot of work too with theory, practical, training courses, lessons, more courses after you passed and even then you only get a 3 year license to start with!

I'd recommend getting at least a couple of lessons with an instructor (there are loads of English speaking ones) to point out the things that catch people out - and to tell you what the examiner is looking for - like the rules about trams and giving way to the right, how to behave with cyclists (they're big on that around here).
