Driving to Germany to send Packages

Hi hi, so I have emailed the. German and Swiss Customs but have not heard yet, so would be happy to hear your take about this.

I am used to send Friends and Family abroad Lego yes yes, VERY expensive in Israel.

Thing is, the Swiss Post is way more expensive for the same Package and Weight, so we are speaking about ca. 40 Chf difference or more.

So I thought, if I anyhow Drive to Germany for Shopping, I would just send from there Packages, same as I did while living in Germany.

Question is, Do the Swiss Care when I drive out of the Border with 2,3 Packages? And do the Germans care that I drive in with?

Strange question, but whoknows maybe someone here is doing it.

Swiss no, very relaxed checks on exit. Germans might tho.

You can always say you're driving to Israel

Mightn't it be cheaper to order the Lego on Amazon or similar and have it delivered directly to Israel?

With giftwrap option if desired.

Either way the recipient might end up paying import duties in Israel. But for you as sender it might be cheaper to order from the source with the lowest incremental cost.

With which driving license? Jokes apart, Driving a Swiss plated car to Germany with a German license may be illegal as the car Insurance may not Cover You (there are disagreements at the Political Level between EU and Switzerland and they trickle down to this).

Anyhow, if you bring closed Package the Customs will Think you are trading Thema and try to Charge You.

But you can claim they are Gifts for your immaginary family in Germany, or for the Driving license office in Germany, if the value is less than the maximum value you can import without declaration (60€?300€? I don’t know)you are all set.

No. You have a year to change the licence, and the person is resident here so has a Swiss plated car, no issue.

As for the packages, I've never been checked on the way out of the country, only on the way in.

I had a cost of over 100 euro, I was just returning goods that were the wrong size.

Did you check SwissPost small consignment prices? Israel CHF 18 for 500g.

Interesting what you say about the Plates, I asked both in the VB Düsseldorf and the Insurance and both said Drive where you want how you want and any Plates issue is between you and the local VB.

What is a VB, in this context, please?

Can a German licence holder drive a foreign car in Germany? I remember I think that a Swiss licence holder can only drive a Swiss registered car in Switzerland - or am I making that up?

Both apply in every case you leave CH. The only difference the direction makes is, which you leave and which you enter.
