I am privately importing a 60 Chevy from USA for private use. Talked to the guys at the MFK and it is a 3 to 4 week wait for a MFK check here in St. Gallen.
Is there anyway at all to drive the car before MFK ? I asked them and they said only a temporary plate to drive the car to the MFK check
Or any tips of how I can get the MFK done quicker, I am getting a garage take the car for the MFK check.
No, without the MFK the only way to drive the car legally is to use the temporary plate, and this is only valid for the trip to and from the MFK.
They are probably a bit down on staff for the summer holiday season, so they may not have any free slots.
What you could do is go by there, talk nicely with them, and ask if there is a chance that if someone cancels their planned appointment you could use the slot.
Calling won't work, but going by in person might.
Have you got all the documents etc together, and is the car in good nick?
I will have to try that, The car gets to Switzerland in another 3 weeks hopefully so I will try to get down to the MFK and beg a quicker time as it will be hard to have the car sitting in a garage for a month and NOT been able to drive it.
Yes I have insurance for it, well temporary till it is looked over and valued.
Been living here about a year now
Yes the car is in perfect condition, might have to change the exhust as its abit loud but otherwise nothing major to do
Hmn... How many modifications has this car had done to it?
Have you got a COC for those rims?
If the car is in really well maintained original condition, and hasn't any safety faults then they may not bother about the exhaust.
If it has NOX, Air suspension or anything like that (or the exhaust is just a straight pipe) then they may get a bit curious about pretty much everything.
Most people would fit the original wheels for the MFK. Shameful. Similar to all the wire wheels with eared knockoffs you see on the road. They are illegal here, which is possibly related to the fact that you never see the eared ones when the car is in for the MFK. Mind you, it does mean that the KOs get removed every 5 years, as opposed to self tightening themselves into oblivion.
