dry hair? advice needed

Hello, i am looking for advice, after a nice haircut my hair got really strange, i was really pleased but once i washed it, the charm was gone, it looked so dry and lifeless though it feels soft, it is very frizzy and can't do anything to help.

I do not use hair dryer or hair straightener, i do not dye it, so i have no idea what happened.

How did this happened, isn't a haircut supposed to help your hair?

Any advice on a good shampoo? treatment?

Thank you

Hair structure does not change when cut as the root is not affected. This may be hormonal or diet related. Salon products are rather pricey but will help a little. A good shampoo, conditioner and mask should do. Try not to wash you hair too often as this will worsen it. Eat healthily and check your stress levels.

I find the weather and water really tough on my hair.

What has worked after three years of trial and error is to only wash it twice a week with shampoo, and to apply a conditioner and leave a coating in. Unfortunately, that means dandruff is a problem.

I struggle to find a decent leave-in conditioning product here. I don't know why... I haven't seen any 'spray conditioning' products anywhere...except in the specialist hairdresser at the HB that has a lot of other imported hair products...

I was studying with a bunch of women a couple of years ago and the older generation were giving advice, and they said they have long-ago insisted on hairdressing with 'no product' - if it doesn't sit nicely just from being washed, cut and dried, then it's not worth it - my hairdresser has awesome 'settling' product that they put in before blowing it dry, but of course it never is quite as nice once I get home...

Phew, im glad im not the only one who decided its best for my hair to be washed and conditioned only twice a week. 3 times is the maximum, or id wash more if theres an occasion.

I iron after every wash but sometimes if im more patient with the blower, it works well but with MORE volume which i dont need. I use a haircoat/cuticle to protect but only at the tips an inch from the roots) because its normal that after a day, natural oils will come out from the roots.

After a haircut, i notice that the tips are kinda rough and dont follow normal hairflow anymore. Just give it some days to soften a bit.

Saw on the TV yesterday that olive oil left for 30 mins is good for dry hair - never tried it though. I am tempted to try though as since my last haircut it looks a bit dry at the ends!

I have tried olive oil on my hair, it does help. I am also frustrated about the way my hair looks now , and when you have it long it is even more difficult to keep it nice and healthy.

I wish i could wash it only twice a week, i do it skeeping a day otherwise it looks terrible...

Well good look, if any good advice received or worked for you, don't forget to share it

I've taken to washing every-other-day also. In Florida I did every day, here my hair goes frizz-city like crazy.

Alas, it's not perfect idea though since I usually just blow a bit at the roots to give it a suggestion of which way to go but otherwise let the curls go natural. This means that day 2 hair is brushed out and being flippy and weird which then means barrettes. (I don't think I've worn barrettes this often since my school girl days.)

My hairdresser told me that the more I wash it, the more it will need it because it overstimulates the oil production so just gets into a vicious circle of washing/greasy/washing. Try to reduce the washing gradually over a period of a few weeks to two or three times a week. You'll notice it starts to rebalance and look more glossy after a while.

Apparently hair doesn't need a lot of washing (unless it gets dirty in other ways, such as exercise and sweat) and shampoos, mild, additive free, baby, whatever, strip out the natural oils if used too often.
