Can anyone recommend a good safe place to get ears pierced in and around Zurich? I have my niece visiting and she wants to get them done while she is here but I don't want to take her to anywhere non reputable
If they're just the earlobes, most jewelry stores will provide free piercing with the purchase of a pair of studs, and this type of piercing is quite straightforward. I've had piercings done at two different jewelry stores in Zurich (one on Bahnhofstrasse and one in Niederdorf) about ten years ago ( good god , saying that makes me feel old!) and had no problems. Cost about 25.- for a pair of holes. The most important thing is the aftercare, and there's lots of helpful info on the internet about that.
If your niece wants something done in the cartilage (i.e. the upper ear) I'd seek out a reputable tattoo and piercing parlour. A place that has a reputation for doing a job on tattoos will also do a good job on piercings.
Even with just basic ear piercing, I"d strongly suggest going to a reputable piercer, rather than the jewelery store route. They'll do a better job with less problems for complications than the gun at the store.
She's only 11 so its just basic lobe piercing, we have a tatoo and piercing shop just down the road from us - evilshell would you recommend going some place like this over a jeweler? as her Aunt i don't want to send her home with infected ears but her mum has given the go ahead for her to have them done while she is here on hols
Infected ears occur when not enough care is taken post-piercing. A twice daily cleaning with anti-septic for the first few days should be fine.
The use of the piercing gun in the jewelry store is totally safe here in Switzerland. The studs are aseptically packaged (sterile) and they still use a healthy dollop of spirits when the actually pierce.
A tatoo/piercing parlour will charge you a premium price (though its not expensive) and you may have to wait a while depending on whether they're busy doing some body art when you arrive.
I definitely would. They are experienced and will be able to place things right, take the correct precautions against infection, etc. The studs should also be a higher quality (tho not guaranteed!).
In a jeweler, you'll find someone who might have been given a bit of instruction with a gun and just slams them into the ears.
It will cost a smidge more, but I'd definitely go that route if it was me.
Plus, and this is just me being paranoid, is a jeweler or a piercer even allowed to perform that on an underage girl without the parents present? An aunt is just as good as a stranger, to the law.
Well we have been and got them done (her mother would rather me be there is she is too squeamish) anyway we went to a tatoo piercing place and it was closed - so we ended up going to 'Kunz' ? on Bahnhofstrasse the one with the singing clock - anyway they were very good and she's very happy - cost 40CHF if anyone is interested
As for her parents being there she had her Aunt and her grandmother and had her parents permission - so not so irresponsible of us
Lob - would rather get them done on Bahnhofstrasse than the Cleveland Centre
But could you do that before if you wanted it? In some countries, it is in the culture to do it when baby... That why I'm asking, if here they have a minimum of age...
[I also want to get my ears pierced... any 1 know exactly where i can do this in Zurich??? Am very new in town and dont know much of the streets. Would rally be happy if some one told me. Thanks
It doesn't hurt.... seriously, it doesn't. If done properly, you won't feel it until it is over (after that, yes, it might hurt a bit, but you shouldn't put nothing but disinfectant on it).
Anyway, you can rub a bit of ice on your lobe right before your pierce to desensitize it.
My girls just had theirs done. We got it done at the local pharmacy. None of them complained of pain. The main initial reaction was really red, hot ears that lasted a few hours.
If you feel you need the cream, you can just ask for it at the pharmacy(Emla crème 5 %).
On Bahnhofstrasse is a Claires and they do piercings. It's like 30 CHF for 2 earrings and the liquid for cleaning your ear after. Did it with my 6 year old and had no problems. She did cry after the "shooting" but since they do it both at the same time, once it is done, it is over.
